Fabulous Fourth Grade
Happy New Year! We hoped that your scholar had a restful break. This week back to school started off with the highest amount of snow in three years! We hope that you were safe during the inclement weather. Students begin classes at 8:00 with their homeroom teachers. It is imperative that students are on time and participate during the virtual class. Reading: This week our scholars finished up our text “Animal Mimics” in which they learned about animals that use mimicry to stay safe. Next week we will continue in our unit of adaptations by reading our next story “Minn of the Mississippi.” In this narrative story we will explore the adventures of Minn, a young snapping turtle as she travels from Minnesota south down the Mississippi River. We will be working on plot, setting, and character development while reading this story. Math: Despite the inclement weather and all the difficulties that followed, scholars were able to explore and familiarize themselves with division with remainders. There will be a Unit 4.3 Unit Test Monday January 10, 2022. Students will have the weekend to review notes and resources posted in Google Classroom to prepare. Next week we will enter Unit 4.4 where we will discover decimals. Be on the lookout for our MLK Math Trivia as we approach the holiday. Science- This week students were given the opportunity to present their STEM FAIR Projects to their classmates. Parents thank you for your help and patience with STEM FAIR.

Happy New Year!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Bid goodbye to the old and welcome the new year with hope, dreams and sprinkle it with a thousand inspirations. Wishing you a year full of happiness and making amazing memories. Nothing but onward and upward for 2022! We are back into the swing of things and gearing up to round out the second half of the second semester. Please make sure to check your scholars' progress on SchoolMax Family Portal and continue to encourage them to give nothing but their BEST efforts. Let’s knock out these 5 months of school ! Let’s GO Tigers! We look forward to a very prosperous New Year! Our Character Principle for January is Confidence! Stay confident in your strength. Stay confident that what you are doing is right. No one else can have power over you unless you bend in your confidence and let them. Don’t get beaten down by life. Quote of the week: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.” ― Martin Luther King, Jr. Clip of the week: "Confidence is the necessary spark before everything that follows," says educator and activist Brittany Packnett. In an inspiring talk, she shares three ways to crack the code of confidence -- and her dream for a world where revolutionary confidence helps turn our most ambitious dreams into reality. https://www.ted.com/talks/brittany_packnett_how_to_build_your_confidence_and_spark_it_in_others?utm_campaign=tedspread&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tedcomshare Please stay safe and take care,

Happy New Year Tiger Family! CMIT South has some amazing school-wide math initiatives approaching that I am excited to share with you. As the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday approaches, we want to celebrate and honor the life, legacy, and achievements of this influential civil rights leader by encouraging students to learn new facts about Dr. King in a fun, numeric way. There will be a Math March to MLK Day Trivia Google Form will be shared school-wide on Monday January 10, 2022. Students have until Friday January 14, 2022 at 3 pm to research and answer as many trivia questions as possible. Grade level winners will be announced upon our return on Tuesday January 18, 2022 and they will receive their mystery math trivia prize. Let's get our scholars ready to learn some new facts, engage with technology and numbers, as well as have some fun! Be on the lookout for more math announcement and activities to come.

Welcome Back Parents!
Parents/Guardians, Welcome Back. Another week of virtual learning and hopefully we will be back to face-to-face learning soon. Students have been spending so much time onscreen. Help support social-emotional development by engaging your child in activities that support their growth in this area. For example, to help get students away from the computer screen, support hands-on activities that can be done indoors. Here is a link to fun activities that the entire family will enjoy. https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/indoor-activities-for-kids/ Thanks for partnering with CMIT Elementary Charter. Respectfully, Ms. Watkis
