3rd Grade Team!
|
Hello everyone and WELCOME back to school! We are so excited to start the year back up in 3rd grade!
Meet your 3rd grade team of teachers:
Ms. McDonagh will be teaching RELA to all in person students.
Ms. Fleet will be teaching Math to all in person students.
Ms. Balogun will be teaching Science and Social Studies to all in person students.
Mrs. Mathews will be teaching all the virtual students.
This year, instead of 2 core subject teachers, all IN PERSON students will have 3. In person students will have Ms. McDonagh, Ms. Fleet and Ms. Balogun each day for their core subjects. If you are doing virtual learning, you will only have 1 core subject teacher. You will be with Mrs. Mathews for RELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies during the virtual learning. We can't wait to meet you all and we are looking forward to a great year!
Additionally, please make sure that you have access to your child's homeroom teacher's Class Dojo page. A welcome letter has been posted on the Class Story page from the 3rd grade team, and this is where we will continue to post any important announcements and information. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out of any of the 3rd grade teachers and we will be happy to help! Enjoy your last week of summer break and we look forward to seeing you all next week!
From your 3rd Grade Team! :)

Meet Mr. Rowland!
|
Greetings Tiger Community,
Hello! My name is David Rowland M. Ed. I will be the 2nd grade reading teacher this upcoming year at CMIT South Elementary. I am excited for your child to join my classroom and I know we are all going to have an incredible time and expand our knowledge together! I can’t wait to get to know your child, and I’d also like to share some about myself before we get this year started. This is my fourth year teaching and all of my years have been right here at CMIT South Elementary! I have previously taught reading and social studies in 5th grade as well as 3rd grade math, science, and health. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Teacher Education (Urban Education) from the University of Delaware and my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. My hobbies include listening to and making music (I play piano and guitar), playing and coaching sports (I coached the men’s club volleyball team at Delaware and we won a national championship!), and playing any type of sports video . My favorite color is purple and I love candles (to the point that I may have a slight problem). My approach to teaching is to first build a classroom community and then expand upon those interpersonal relationships to create a rigorous and challenging reading classroom environment for my students. I rely heavily upon communication with parents and am looking forward to your partnership in your child’s educational journey throughout the 2nd grade year.
Thank you so much for your time, and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns throughout the rest of the year! I am looking forward to an awesome year in 2nd Grade!
In Partnership,
Mr. Rowland

Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
|
Welcome back CMIT Tiger Family and Hello to my new Tigers!
My name is Ms. Chandler and I am the Professional School Counselor. This is my 3rd year as the counselor at CMIT and I would not want to be anywhere else! I am a product of Prince George's County and I am proud to serve in my own community. I am a graduate of Temple University and received my masters in School Counseling and Mental Health from Trinity Washington University. My passion has always been in education and being an advocate for our youth.
As the Professional School Counselor, I play an instrumental role in working directly with your child on their academic, career and personal/social development. My goal is to provide all of our students with a wealth of knowledge and materials to encourage social emotional development and academic achievement. Each year individual and small group services are available for students, as well as classroom guidance lessons. These services promote personal and social growth, which, in turn, raise academic standards. I am aware that the past year and a half has not only affect us as adults but our children too. I am here to offer support to our students who may experience any anxieties going through yet another transition. I believe all our students are resilient and has the ability to succeed with all the support from myself, teachers and the staff here at CMIT.
Thanks for the opportunity to work with your children! I am excited to begin the school year. If you should have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at dchandler@cmitsouthes.org.
