A Welcome
|
July 11, 2018
Greetings Families,
It is indeed a pleasure and honor to have been selected to serve as the founding principal of the new addition to the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) cluster of schools, Chesapeake Mathematics & Information Technology Elementary-South Public Charter School (CMIT-Elem-South).
With over twenty years of experience in education, I have had the pleasure of working in traditional public, private and charter schools. The latter of those years, I have worked in the charter school sector in Washington, DC and Prince George’s County Public Schools. In addition to working across a variety school of settings, I have worked at every level, elementary, middle, and high school which gives me a broader lens and great insight into the continuum of learning from K-12. I am excited for the opportunity to share these combined experiences with our school community.
This school year, we will focus on building a strong culture of excellence, structures, and systems. Using the CLF model, we will implement a well-defined curriculum that is supported by research with a strong lens on mathematics and technology, build strong school, family, community partnerships by creating a safe, nurturing, engaging, caring, and a culturally responsive learning environment by developing strong teacher-student relationships.
Using my StrengthFinders’ themes, I will continue to acquire the necessary knowledge to pave a path towards strong school leadership and the responsibility that comes with the role. In every interaction with members of the school community, I vow to exude my love of and passion for teaching, learning, and most importantly, children.
All the decisions will made on this wise, for what child, for what time in a child’s life, and what is in the best interest of the child. I do not believe that there is a one-size-fits-all approach to learning. I believe in finding a way to reach every student, and that a “student-centered” approach towards learning is the best way to teach. I will strive to reach and educate teachers, students, and parents because I understand how individuals learn best. In addition, I understand that learning should be fun and will exude that energy with students and staff. I will hold all of our students and teachers to high standards and will compliment that with an eagerness to celebrate their successes.
I look forward to working with you this school year and please reach out to me should you have any questions are concerns.
Best,
Patrice Harrell-Carter, Principal

Teachers Selected
|
At the writing of this blurb, all of the teachers have been selected for the upcoming school year. However, they are going through the Prince George's County Public Schools on-boarding process. Once they have been cleared and become official Prince George's County Public Schools employees, we will share the information with the school community. Thank you for your patience.
