Summer @Your Library Reading and Learning Program
Dear CMIT Elementary School Staff, Hi! I am Andrea from the local Laurel Branch Library of Prince George’s County Memorial Library System. I wanted to ask if library staff could come visit your school and talk to your students about our Summer @Your Library reading and learning program. This year the theme is ‘Build a Better World.’ To participate, students will register or sign in online at www.pgcmls.info (pgcmls.beanstack.org) and complete a variety of activities for badges and prizes. All PGCPS students K-5 have been preregistered. There are also app recommendations and book lists based on your student’s age and interests. Upon completing the online game, your students will get a free book, and can enter to win electronics, gift certificates and event tickets. Adults can also play online. Create your own account today and play along with your students! When we visit, our staff hope to excite students about summer learning and show them how to play the game. Students will use their LINK number to sign in. As you know, preventing summer learning loss is very important between school years. Reading and exploring over the summer is the best way for your students to do this. Visit PGCMLS’s calendar of events to see all of the exciting happenings around the county. I also attaching a bilingual (English/Spanish) flyer introducing the program. Please feel free to share with all of your students and their families. We are looking forward to working wit you again this spring and summer! Thanks very much, Andrea Erickson

UPDATE!!! PG County Public Schools - Last Day of School
This message is to update you on the last day of school for the 2016-17 academic year in Prince George's County Public Schools. First, we apologize for the late notice. There were two emergency closings in March — one for students and one for students and staff. Since then, PGCPS officials had been seeking a state waiver from the mandatory 180-day school calendar. The waiver for one to two days of student attendance would have allowed the school year to end as originally planned, June 9 for students and June 12 for teachers. The school system recently learned those efforts were unsuccessful. As a result, we must add two extra days to the calendar for students and one extra day for teachers. The school year will now end June 13 for students and teachers. Schools will dismiss two hours early on June 9, June 12 and June 13 to allow teachers time to complete year-end tasks. These dates are subject to change pending any emergency closures. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience to your family. For more information about the school calendar, please visit the PGCPS website ( www.pgcps.org/calendar).
