Dr. Maxwells Message
|
The outcome of the election does not change our mission and vision. Nor does it change the direction for our school system. We will continue to stand with all of our Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) students and families in solidarity. Please be assured that our schools will continue to be places of learning where all students are welcome, safe, and valued.
Please see the attached letter for the entire message from Dr. Maxwell.

Drop off and Breakfast hours
|
As a reminder we open our doors at 7:35 am. Parent and car drop off is at the cafeteria door and shuttle buses are at the front door. Drop off should be kiss and ride, as this is what will help keep the flow of traffic moving.
Food services personnel offers breakfast starting from 7:35 am every morning. Cafeteria doors are closed at 7:55. The students who are already in line will still receive breakfast but no more students will be accepted to the cafeteria for breakfast once the doors are closed.
Please ensure to arrive at 7:25 am to get in line in the parking lot. Doors open at 7:35 for students.
Thank you for your cooperation.

All persons who will be interacting with children will need to be fingerprinted. There are different types of fingerprinting available.
Due to a recent change in policy (Administrative Procedure 4215), commercial background checks can NO LONGER be utilized for field trips.

Cost of Online Commercial Background Check $7.26 (not applicable for field trips) and must be accompanied by a PGCPS employee at all times while in the building.
Volunteers and chaperones must also view the mandatory reporting video and sign with Mrs. Virgil in the front office that this has been completed. Mrs. Virgil can provide this to you upon request.
To Volunteer please contact the teacher whom you will be working with so that they can provide your information for our volunteer calendar. Volunteers are assigned to a task, time, and teacher. This is for accountability and recording purposes.
For student shadowing please inform Mrs. Virgil and she will add you to the student shadow calendar. Student shadowing can occur up to 2x a month and you observing your scholar.
As a county we are working to ensure the safety of all students. We are airing on the side of caution. Here at CMIT Elementary we are doing our best to ensure that students and staff feel safe to provide the best learning environment that we can.

Student of the Month Spotlight Our Student Spotlight this week is Janae Jenkins from Ms. Miller's class! Janae says she loves Math because she loves learning and loves answering math questions. She also really loves doing homework! Congratulations on earning Student of the Month, Janae! This week in Kindergarten we will be spending the two days reviewing topics we have learned so far this year. We will also be working on some Thanksgiving activities to get ready for the holiday! On Tuesday, November 22, we will be creating "disguises" for turkeys to keep them from getting eaten on Thanksgiving! We will have construction paper, glue, and crayons, but we would love more items! If you can, please send items like feathers, cotton balls, beads, or other craft items that students can use to create their turkey disguises on MONDAY. Check out this link to see examples of what we will be doing: https://www.pinterest.com/handmadekidsart/turkey-disguise-project/High Frequency Words Here are our sight words we have learned so far. Remember to practice reading and writing these words regularly! (When reading at home, if you see these words, have your child point it out!) All of the words we will learn this year are available on our grade level website under "Sight Words." I, am, little, to, a, have, is, the, we, my, like, he, for REMINDERS - Homework is due on FRIDAY each week. Remember to look for their new homework packet on Fridays. Homework that is not submitted by the due date will be given a ZERO. - Please read regularly! Remember that just 20 minutes a day can boost your child's reading levels! - If you would like to chaperone any future field trips, you must have a fingerprint background check. This can be obtained from the Fingerprint office at the county building 14201 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD Monday-Friday from 8:00am-3:45pm. For more information or to contact the fingerprinting office, please look at the fingerprint office website: http://www1.pgcps.org/fingerprinting/- Please remember to send an extra pair of uniform clothes to keep in your child's cubbie at school in the event of accidents or spills. - Uniform is enforced daily, including uninterrupted black shoes. Lessons Learned- This past week fifth graders celebrated with Super Hero Day, Career Day, Character Day, (choosing favorite character), Pajama Day, and attending a basketball game at the University of Maryland. These activities have undoubtedly impacted students’ understanding that success brings joy, excitement, and celebration. As we move towards the Thanksgiving Break, please take a moment to explain, and show our students that we can learn even while we are having fun. For example, show the connection of STEM/Literacy as you plan, shop and fulfill the requirements for you and your families’ celebration. Valuable lessons can be learned from making these ‘real life’ connections. Our November Students of the Month: - Oluwabusoye Okunuga and Genesis Edwards Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving Holiday!
