Notes from the School Nurse
Hello Parents/Guardians! As we are now into cold/flu season and also still dealing with COVID-19, this note serves as a gentle reminder regarding a few things related to student health. WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL 1. Sick children need to be kept home from school; to include excessive coughing, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, vomiting, and/or high body temperatures (fever). Resting at home will help them get better more quickly and will prevent them from exposing other children or the staff to their illness. 2. For additional information and/or questions regarding when to keep your child home from school please visit the link below: - When to Keep Your Child Home From School: https://www.pgcps.org/offices/school-health/when-to-keep-your-child-home-from-school

Kindergarten News
Hello Kindergarten Families: December is here and winter is right around the corner. Please check the weather daily so your scholar is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. We have seen some scholars come to school without a sweater or a coat. Please make sure that you are reading any messages via dojo, class story, or emails pertaining to your scholar's class. *Homework will be provided on Friday’s for the upcoming week, starting on December 2, 2022. Spirit Week will begin on Monday, December 5-9, 2022. Look out for information on your scholar's class story for each day's specific spirit wear and what should be brought in for the donations. We will also have a Holiday Shop, where your scholar may purchase gifts for their friends and families for the holiday. Your scholar will have a sneak peek at the holiday shop on December 12, 2022, there will be another date when they may bring in money to purchase items. *Communication: Teacher’s will continue to reach out to families via dojo, email, or by phone, to touch base and give you feedback on how your scholar is doing in class. Our goal is to reach out to 1-3 students per week. Please be patient and understanding for the feedback from your scholar's teachers, as we have 23-25 scholars per class. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your scholar’s teacher. Clubs have begun and your scholars are excited to be a part of them with their peers. With that being said, if you signed your scholar up for clubs, their afternoon dismissal is for them to stay with the enrichment scholars. Please remember the days that your scholar is in a club. If they are usually a car or van rider, they will not be at their regularly scheduled dismissal area. If for some reason they are not to go to club that day, please notify your scholar’s teacher ahead of time so they can be at the correct dismissal location. ELA: Our sight words will be four, five, and here. We will work on the letter sounds “Gg” and “Ee”. We will also work on blends, spoken onsets, and rimes to form simple words. Math: We will take our Topic 6 Assessment in the beginning of the week, and then begin our topic 7, which will be understanding and exploring subtraction problems. We will continue to use math manipulatives to assist with solving mathematical problems. Science: We will continue to investigate the sun and how we need protection from the sun. We will discuss why it is important to have shelter from the sun, and how we can create a shelter. Social Studies: We will review what we learned about these heroes: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Pocahontas, to prepare for the topic test. Health: We will identify the five food groups and discuss why healthy eating is important. Friendly reminder: ClassDojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities or events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar's ClassDojo. Teacher emails and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well. Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies. Please label all of your scholar's items, sweaters, jackets, water bottles, lunch bags. If your scholar's form of transportation changes for dismissal, please complete the necessary forms and upload into the document, as well as notify your scholar's teacher. Upcoming events: Spirit Week begins on December 5, 2022. Holiday Shop (sneak peek) December 12, 2022. If your scholar attends enrichment in the afternoon, please provide your scholar's homework journal. They can work on it during enrichment. When they complete it, please upload the assignment to their portfolio located in ClassDojo. Keep up the good work scholars and parents. Music Our 3-5 students are diving deep into their keyboard unit. They are splitting their class time and taking half to explore their own choices of piano play alongs in addition to practicing chord structure and score reading as a whole group.  ALL GRADES have spent weeks practicing their winter songs about snow, Kwanza, Hanukkah, Christmas, or family. They are gearing up to perform for other classes in a winter fun assembly before winter break! Art Greetings, Tigers have studio time this week. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to finish their current projects. Projects include portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, and other activities that develop their understanding of the depth of field and value in 3D illusions.  We will continue to stress craftsmanship as a priority. Thank you, Mr. Dorsey Technology Our students are changing the future with an Hour of Code Dear Parents, We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. But only a fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 51% of all high schools offer computer science. That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that CMIT Elementary is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills.  See  https://hourofcode.com/us/en/learn for details, and help spread the word. PE Good week parents! This week we are working on our reaction time, and understanding the difference between inside & outside items. Please remember to ensure students are wearing athletic shoes on days they have PE. Spanish K- 2 Students will be introduced to the letters LL,  M, and N. Students will continue with the four seasons of the year. 3-5 Students will be writing sentences with descriptive words. STEM Students will be building objects that they feel thankful for as we get ready to close out November.
