Kindergarten News
Hello Kindergarten Families: November has come in with some temperamental weather, one day it's 40 degrees and the next 80 degrees. Please check the weather daily, so your scholar is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. We have read through information that families shared at pastries with the principal and we are going to implement some of your ideas and suggestions. *Homework will be provided on Friday’s for the upcoming week, starting on December 2, 2022. *Communication: Teacher’s will begin reaching out to families via dojo, email, or by phone, to touch base and give you feedback on how your scholar is doing in class. Our goal is to reach out to 1-3 students per week Please be patient and understanding for the feedback from your scholars’ teachers, as we have 23-25 scholars’ per class. As always if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your scholar’s teacher. Clubs have begun and your scholar’s are excited to be a part of them with their peers. With that being said, if you signed your scholar up for clubs, their afternoon dismissal is for them to be in holding with the enrichment scholars. Please remember the days that your scholar is in a club. If they are usually a car or van rider, they will not be at their regular scheduled dismissal area. If for some reason, they are not to go to club that day, please notify your scholar’s teacher ahead of time, so they can be at the correct dismissal location. This week we will be working on the following in ELA: We will continue reviewing the sight words: “of, are, that, they, you, and do” we will work on the letter “k” and “d” sounds. We will introduce digraphs - /Sh/- Introduce /sh/ categorize pictures that have /sh/ in the beginning and end of words. Social Studies: Our topics we will look at the state flag of Maryland. What are the colors of the flag? What symbols are on the flag? Look at the symbols of Maryland: State Bird, State Tree, State Flower. Math: We will finish up topic 5 continuing comparing numbers 1-10- using number sequence. We will have our topic 5 assessment next week. We will begin exploring addition by mid-week, we will be using manipulatives to assist with the topic. Science: We will learn that Matter has different states. Three of those states are solid, liquid, and gas. We will explore that solids have a shape, liquids hold the shape of the container they are in and flow, and a gas holds no shape. Health: We will discuss what is a Growth Mindset? We will also discuss times when you have made mistakes. How did you feel when you made the mistakes? Did you learn from it or give up? Friendly reminder: ClassDojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities or events and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholars’ ClassDojo. Emailing teachers and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well. Technology K-2 students practiced Introduction to Online Safety-Protecting Your Privacy This engaging video-based learning object provides the learner with foundational knowledge about the importance of protecting their personal information. The learner will understand that they shouldn't share any personal information online with anyone they don’t know and trust, and they should always log off or lock their device to protect their personal information. 3-5 Students practiced Netiquette in Online Communication In this animated video, Trey and two of his classmates are collaborating on their Virtual Science Fair project in a private chat room when netiquette issues derail them from their task. The lesson introduces what netiquette is, why it’s important, and shows some of the negative sides of online communication. Art Greetings, Scholars will be putting their final touches on projects with landscapes, directional lines, patterns, portraits, and understanding 3D imagery. They are focusing on completing their work, with good craftsmanship. STEM Since this is a short week, I'm giving students free range to expand their mind and build what first comes to mind.
