Donuts with Dads and Dudes
Our Annual Donuts for Dads and Dudes will be held on Friday November 11th from 8:30-9:30am. A dude can be a male mentor, uncle, cousin, ect. You will have a chance to enjoy donuts with your scholar(s) and then head to their classroom. We recommend arriving by 8am to sign in to avoid any delays. Hello Kindergarten Families, We are heading into November with several upcoming days away from the school building. Monday, November 7, 2022 will be an asynchronous ½ day. Your scholar will go home with worksheets to be completed at home. Please make sure that you sign your scholar into the class, using the Google document for attendance from your scholar’s teacher. It will be posted in ClassDojo, and sent out in an email on Monday. Disguising a Turkey will be a project that your scholar will complete at home. We will send home a picture of a turkey with your scholar, and you must disguise it so it does not get eaten up on Thanksgiving Day. Your scholar should be creative and imaginative, and return it to their teacher by November 11, 2022. This week in ELA: We will continue reviewing the sight words: “see, she, look” we will work on the short “i” sound, and realistic fiction. We will have our unit 1 Assessment next week. Social Studies: Our topics that we will discuss: What does it mean to be American? Recognize that we all live in a country: The United States. We will continue to discuss landmarks and symbols of the United States of America. This week in Math: We will start on topic 5 this week; continuing comparing numbers 1-10- using number sequence We will have our topic 5 assessment in 2 weeks. This week in Science: We will explore, describe and sort variety of objects. We will connect and investigate using picture cards and images of objects. This week in Health: We will continue to discuss feelings and emotions; providing tools to our scholars to help them get through their feelings. A tool that we use is closing our eyes, breathing in slowly through our nose, and blow out though our mouth 3 times, to relax the body. Friendly reminder: ClassDojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities or events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar's ClassDojo. Emailing teachers and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well. Content area focus this week: Reading/ELA OLSAT Testing Math Topic 3: Addition Facts to 20: Use Strategies Skill: Building Addition and Subtraction fluency. Social Studies Chapter 3: Maps and Models Goal: Identify the parts of a map, including the title, compass rose, legend, and symbols Goal: Recognize that maps can be used to locate and identify places. Science STEM Fair Preparations STEM Fair topics are due November 18. Health/Social Emotional Learning Lesson: Empathy and Critical Thinking Learning Goal: Describe ways to show empathy and caring to someone in a given situation. Have a prosperous week!

2nd Grade News
We had an fantastic ninth week in second grade. Next week, we will begin Unit 2 in reading, titled, "Nature's Wonder's." The big question for the unit is "What patterns do we see in nature?" Throughout the week, we will identify text structures to facilitate reading informational text. The spelling pattern will be contractions. In Math, we will continue Topic 4. This topic covers fluently adding within 100. In Social Studies, we will talk about Earth and its continents. In Science, changing matter will be the focus. Updates: As a reminder Monday will be asynchronous for all students. This means students will need to complete school work from home. Students will bring Monday's work home on Friday. Please have your scholar complete the work on Monday and return it when we come back to school on Wednesday. Now that temperatures are dropping, please make sure scholars are coming to school with jackets. We will continue to go outside for recess. It is HIGHLY recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a terrific weekend and we will see everyone on next week!

Third Grade News!
This week In Reading and Social Studies, we will begin reviewing for our first Unit Tests. The Reading test is on Unit 1: Environments and the Social Studies test is on Chapter 1: Our Environment. Students will engage in games, skill practice, and study guides to help students review and prepare for these unit tests. This week in Math, we are finishing up topic 4, using multiplication facts to solve division. We are focusing on word problems and figuring out unknowns in equations. In Science, we are taking a look at electric forces as a continuation of forces and motion. We will look at the interaction of positively and negatively charged objects.

Next Week in Fourth Grade
In Reading, we will be reviewing content taught in Unit 1 in preparation for our upcoming Unit 1 assessment on 11/11. In Social Studies, We will learn that the United States faces continuity and change in the 21st century. In Science, we will review examples of energy being transferred from place to place. Students will also explain how heat flows from hot objects to cold objects. In Math, students will complete cumulative benchmark or topics 1-4 and start division. Monday, November 7, 2022 is an asynchronous day for students. Students will receive a packet to complete which will have Reading, Science, and Math assignments. An attendance form will be shared via ClassDojo, email, and Google Classroom for parents to complete to log their scholar's attendance. Please only complete the form once. As the cold and flu season is quickly approaching we are in need of facial tissue, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes to keep the germs away. 5th Grade Newsletter Social Studies Adventurers!! We are journeying again! In Chapter 4 we are learning the daily life in the colonies of the new immigrants! Students will learn the patterns of life and work in the colonies different from the patterns today. Students are identifying where the colonies settled and how their daily lives are impacted by the land and its natural resources. The journey continues! RELA This week in RELA we finished U1W5: Picturesque Journeys and began reviewing our Unit 1 skills. Next week, students will take their Unit 1 Assessment. It will cover all skills from Unit 1: Analyze Main Idea & Details, Analyze Text Features, Analyze Text Structure, Understand Point of view, Explain Sound Devices & Figurative Language, Suffixes -ic, -ism, -ive, -able, -ible, Greek Roots: chron, meter, photo, bio, geo, logy, Vowel Teams, VCe Syllables, Simple Sentences, Independent & Dependent Clauses, Compound & Complex Sentences, Common, Proper & Collective Nouns, and Regular & Irregular Plural Nouns. Science and Math This week in Math, we are reviewing multiplying decimals and whole numbers. We will close out these two topics with an end of topic test. In Science this week, we will review the earth's systems and how matter is embedded in these systems and close out with end of topic test. Students will also take the Science Fast One test.

Specials News
Music Students in grades 3-5 are finally beginning their piano units! We have plugged in our mini keyboards to our Chromebooks and practiced our C chord, G chord, and Am chord. Scholars will be able to log on to our app (solfege.io) to practice from home on any piano or keyboard as soon as next week! Students in K-2 will begin piano next week. Art Greetings, Scholars will be putting their final touches on projects with landscapes, directional lines, patterns, portraits, and understanding 3D imagery. They are focusing on completing their work, with good craftsmanship. Technology K-2 students practiced Introduction to Online Safety-Protecting Your Privacy. This engaging video-based learning object provides the learner with foundational knowledge about the importance of protecting their personal information. The learner will understand that they shouldn't share any personal information online with anyone they don’t know and trust, and they should always log off or lock their device to protect their personal information. 3-5 students practiced Commenting in the Virtual Classroom In this animated video, Trey introduces the learner to an online classroom, his class message board, the right ways to leave comments online, and what to do if you see someone cyberbullying. PE This week, we are working on our throwing. We are playing a game that builds up our class chemistry/teamwork while also working on our throwing skills. Spanish Students K-2 are introduced to the letters G and J. Students in grades 3-5 are having conversations among themselves in Spanish. They are putting into practice lessons learned. STEM Greetings, I am the new Stem teacher, Mr.Hopkins. This is my second week at CMIT North Elementary. This is a new experience for me and I am enjoying working with our scholars. This week, students are challenging themselves by putting together all types of different animals with their legos. I am looking forward to having a great school year. Thank you,
