Hello Kindergarten Families:
On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, our scholars enjoyed a Fabulous Pumpkin Day, starting out with a virtual field-trip to the pumpkin patch. Our scholars explored the ins and outs of a pumpkin, estimated how tall the pumpkins were by using math cubes, and predicted if their pumpkin would sink or float. They ended their activities with going to our indoor pumpkin patch and picking a pumpkin to take home, it was a great experience had by all 4 kindergarten classes.
Our scholars' enjoyed dressing up for spirit week and putting 15 minutes aside each day to take part in “D.E.A.R.” Drop Everything and Read for the Read-A-Thon. We are also continuing to review story elements: Character, Setting, Problem, and a Solution, to prepare for our book character report that is due next Monday, October 31, 2022.
Book Character Day Parade will be on Monday, October 31, 2022. It is a school-wide event that your scholar may participate in. Your scholar may choose a character in a book to dress up as and have the book with them. Costumes must be age appropriate, with NO MASK, and it should be easily accessible for your scholar to get on and off by themselves. We are asking that our Kindergarteners create a book report about the book they bring in. We sent home information regarding this activity and the template for your scholar’s book report on Friday. The completed book report will be an assessment grade for ELA. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your scholar’s teacher.
Disguising a Turkey will be a project that your scholar will complete at home. We will send home a picture of a turkey with your scholar, and you must disguise it so it does not get eaten up for Thanksgiving Day. Your scholar should be creative and imaginative, and return it back to their teacher by November 11, 2022.
This week in ELA, we will be working on the following: We will have new sight words: “see, she, look” we will work on the short “a” sound, and realistic fiction. We will have our unit 1 assessment next week.
In Social Studies, topics that we will discuss: What does it mean to be American? Recognize that we all live in a country: The United States. We will continue to discuss landmarks and symbols of the United States of America.
Math: We have started topic 4 this week; working on problem solving, comparing numbers 1-10 using number sequence. We will have our topic 4 assessment on Friday.
Science: We will explore, describe and sort a variety of objects. We will connect and investigate using picture cards and images of objects.
Health: We will continue to discuss feelings and emotions; providing tools to our scholars to help them get through their feelings. A tool that we use is closing our eyes, breathing in slowly through our nose, and blowing out though our mouth 3 times, to relax the body.
Friendly reminder: ClassDojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities or events, and messages, please make sure that you are connected to your scholars’ ClassDojo. Emailing teachers and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well.
