Happy Fall
Hello Kindergarten Families: Happy Fall…It is starting to become cool in the morning and we have seen several scholars come in with their CMIT jackets and sweatshirts. Please make sure that they are labeled with your scholar's first name and last initial on the tag. If items are found and it isn’t labeled, it is brought to the lost and found that is located in the cafeteria. We have finished our Fall MAP Assessments and are completing our KRA Assessments within the next week. Please continue to have your scholars get plenty of rest and eat a well balanced breakfast so they will be soaring scholars throughout the day. Scholars that are not well rested tend to have a challenging day and have the potential to be off task during lessons. A routine dinner schedule and a routine bedtime schedule will help elevate sleepy scholars and promote good behaviors. This week we will be working on the following in ELA: We will add 3 new sight words to our word wall:” he, have, is” we will talk about using words to make connections, we will use 3-4 words to build sentences, and we will work on correct writing structure, by explaining the correct spacing between each word, correct punctuation, and capitalization. We will also have a quiz at the end of the week in ELA. Social Studies: Our topics are: School rules that children had to follow long ago. How do people best cooperate in the community? Which leaders make rules and laws? Math: We will have our first math assessment this week. It will be a review of what we have learned over the past 2 weeks with number sense and identifying numbers 0-5. We review what is on the test the day before we take the test, to prepare our scholars. Science: We will have a short quiz about pushing and pulling objects, and continue to observe and discuss how objects can move with hands on experiences. We will not have Health this week, due to no school on Friday for Professional Development for the Teachers. Friendly reminder: ClassDojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities or events, and messages, please make sure that you are connected to your scholar's ClassDojo. Emailing the teacher or using the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well. Teachers' emails: Ms. Tate: krenaudtate@cmitelementary.org Ms. Major: jmajor@cmitelementary.org Ms. Echols: eechols@cmitelementary.org Ms. Thornton: athornton@cmitelementary.org Please provide a nut free snack for your scholar daily. Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies. Please label all of your scholars’ items, sweaters, jackets, water bottles, lunch bags. If your scholar's form of transportation changes for dismissal, please inform from the desk, as well as your scholar's teacher. Upcoming events: Friendly Reminder: There is no school on Friday for Scholars, Teachers will have Professional Development Day. We are starting on our DRA Assessments through October 7, 2022, Dibels Assessments will begin on September 26-October 19, 2022. Our homework is given every Monday, if your scholar attends enrichment in the afternoon, please provide your scholar's homework journal. They can work on it during enrichment. It can be left in their backpack until enrichment. When they complete it, please upload the assignment to their portfolio in ClassDojo Keep up the good work scholars and parents. The homework assignments will be posted in your scholar's class story on Mondays, which is in ClassDojo. The assignments can be turned in by taking a picture of the completed assignment and uploading it to your scholar's portfolio in ClassDojo. We had a fantastic fourth week in second grade. Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" Throughout the week, we will focus on informational text. The weekly question is, "How does living in a community help people?" We will continue to work on consonant blends. In Math, we will be starting Topic 2. This topic covers working with equal groups. In Science, we will be observing properties of different objects. In Social Studies we will be identifying primary and secondary sources. It is HIGHLY recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. This Week in 3rd Grade!
In Reading, students will be reading Informational texts about our selected countries and reviewing previous skills. The third grade team is looking forward to studying Hispanic & Latin American cultures as we begin our school wide celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month. In Social Studies, each third grade classroom has chosen a Spanish speaking country and will begin learning all about this country next week. Asking your scholar what they learned about their assigned country over the next couple of days is a great conversation piece at home. We are finished with our beginning of the year assessments. Students will be grouped and individualized small group instruction will begin. We urge that you remind scholars to pay attention to their homework sheets from both classes. Scholars should be writing their name and date on any work to be submitted. All homework should be turned in or completed on time! In Math, we are continuing to practice multiplication fluency using times tables and other patterns. Towards the end of last week, we are taking our 2nd topic assessment. In Science, this week we are working on predicting future motion. Our mid-week lab will predicting the motion of different objects dropped in bowls.
