2nd Grade News

We had a terrific third week in second grade.
Next week, we will continue to work on classroom routines. We will also continue using our curriculum. Students will still be able to access all assignments either through Google Classroom or their workbooks that should have been picked up from the school. If there are any assignments where this is not the case, your child's teacher will reach out to you and let you know.
Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" Throughout the week, we will focus on realistic fiction and informational text. The weekly question is, "How does living in a community help people?" The spelling pattern will be consonant blends. In Math, we will be finishing up Topic 1. This topic covers fluently adding within 20. Students will be taking their Topic 1 Assessment.
It is HIGHLY recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home.
Over the next few weeks we will be continuing to complete DRA Assessments.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo.
Have a terrific weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

Art:
Greetings,
We are finishing up our Brave Space projects and starting experiments with the art elements, like line, and shape. Projects and activities will direct scholars to share their interpretations through two-dimensional works of art.
Our tigers will work on linear observations transitioning into depth of field for some grade levels, and changing the context of imagery for others. Necessary materials include: Sketchbooks/Paper, pencils, and colored pencils or crayons
Thank you,
Mr. Dorsey
Music:
Students in 1-5 are diving into musical meters, finding the strong and weak beats in meters of 2, 3, 4 and 6/8. They are using iPads and QR codes to log into interactive activities to show their knowledge. Kindergarten musicians are practicing their four voice types and discussing when they’re appropriate to use. We have plenty of silly examples to make these distinctions clear.
Ms. Bautch
Technology:
K-1 students developed mouse skills such as pointing, clicking, double-clicking, and dragging while practicing counting, as well as matching shapes and colors.
2-5 students have been practicing Home Row keys.
Ms. Avsar
STEM:
Students will be building apartment layouts and apartments buildings in STEM this week.
Ms.Bryant
