Greetings Tiger Families! Welcome back to the new school year! Scholars in Kindergarten through 5th grade will be taking the first round of the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Growth assessments during the week of September 11. Please be sure that your scholar gets a good night's rest and arrive on time for school each day. Keep Calm and Join Us At the PTO Meeting
Hello Tiger Family! Our first PTO meeting of the school year will be on Wednesday September 28th at 6pm in the cafeteria. Dinner will be served and details on the menu will be sent out closer to the meeting date. You will have a chance to meet the EBoard and get all of the dates for the wonderful events and fundraisers that we have planned for the year. We will also provide a zoom link for anyone that can’t make it in person. We hope to see you there! Hello Kindergarten Families: This week your scholars continued learning our procedures and routines. We introduced our curriculum on Savvas and worked in our workbooks, following 2-3 step directions. Next week, we will work on the following: ELA: we will introduce what a noun is and give examples. Sight words: a, to, like, (encourage your scholars to look for these words in books, newspapers, or magazines). We will work on the letters M, S, T and continue to work on handwriting. Social Studies: How do we act in school? Making good choices. Math: we will practice writing, reading, and making the numbers 4 and 5 Recognizing #4 and #5 in different arrangements using manipulatives. Science: We will continue with Push and Pull and how objects move. Health: We will talk about “germs” covering our coughs and sneezes. Friendly reminder: Classdojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities, events, and messages, Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar's Classdojo. Teacher's email and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well. Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies. Please label all of your scholar's items, sweaters, jackets, water bottles, lunch bags. If your scholar's form of transportation changes for dismissal, please inform the front office, as well as your scholar's teacher. Upcoming events: Back to school night Sept. 13, 6pm-8pm (virtual) you will be provided your scholars teachers Zoom link as the day gets closer. We will begin MAP Assessments starting on Monday, September 12-19, 2022 so please make sure that your scholar gets enough rest and eats a good breakfast so they can complete the assessments with ease. If you have not provided headphones for your scholar, please send them in a pair within the next week. We are continuing our KRA Assessments through October 7, 2022. We will also begin homework this week. Our scholars will have one homework assignment in Math and ELA each day, Monday-Thursday. The homework assignment will be posted in your scholars’ class story on Mondays, which is in Classdojo. The assignments can be turned in by taking a picture of the completed assignment and uploading it to your scholars’ portfolio in Classdojo. Try it out this weekend, take a picture of your scholar and upload it to their portfolio. We look forward to seeing your scholar's photo. First Grade News and Reminders
Hello Families: We are looking forward to seeing all of you during our virtual Back to School Night on September 13th from 6-8 pm. We will provide you with important information concerning homework, assessments, and procedures for first grade. Please be sure to join! Reminders: MAP Testing will begin this week. Reading Testing will take place on the 13th or 14th and Math will take place on the 15th or 16th. Please check with your child's teacher for the specific testing dates. If your dismissal plans change; please notify your child's teacher via dojo as well as the front office before 1pm on the day of the change. Content area focus this week: Reading/ELA Story: "Henry On Wheels" Genre: Realistic Fiction Literary Focus:Ask and Answer questions about the setting. Phonics: Short Ii Language and Conventions: Present tense verbs Math Topic 1: Understanding Addition and Subtraction. Objective: Solve problems involving putting together or taking apart. Social Studies Lesson 1: Rights and Responsibilities as Citizens. Big Question:What is a good citizen? Focus: characteristics of citizenship Science Lesson 1: Sound Focus: Making Sound Goal: By the end of this lesson, students should be able to vibrate objects to make sounds and show that sounds can make objects vibrate. Health/Social Emotional Learning Lesson: Getting to know each other. Goal: Students will complete activities getting to know their new classmates. Have a prosperous week!

2nd Grade News
We had a super second week in second grade. Students were introduced to the second grade curriculum. Next week, we will continue to work on classroom routines. We will also continue using our curriculum. Students will still be able to access all assignments either through Google Classroom or their workbooks. If there are any assignments where this is not the case, your child's teacher will reach out to you and let you know. Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" In class, we will be taking our first weekly assessment in ELA. Throughout the week, we will focus on realistic fiction. The weekly question is, "How can people improve their neighborhoods?" The spelling pattern will be Long Vowels: CVCe. In Math, we will continue working on Topic 1. This topic covers fluently adding within 20. We will soon be reaching out for chaperones for upcoming field trips. In order to be a chaperone you must have completed the chaperone checklist that has been sent out by the school. It is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. What's New in Third Grade
In Reading, students will take their spelling test on Monday. Students will also take their MAP assessments. Scholars will be taking the MAP-Reading on Tuesday and MAP-Math on Thursday. The data from these assessments will allow us to have a true picture of where your scholar is performing academically and how we can support their academic growth. They will also continue to work on developing components of a personal narrative. They will continue to analyze the traditional tale "Grandma and the Great Gourd." Students will continue to focus on the following skills VCCV words and simple sentences. This week in Math, scholars will finish up and review our introduction to multiplication and division. We will have our first topic assessment towards the end of the week. In Science, scholars will continue our first unit of motion and forces. We will work on predicting motion and accurately recording data.

Next Week in Fourth Grade
This week we spent more time learning and practicing routines and procedures to set the tone for the school year. We are off to a good start. We look forward to growing readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. We cannot do this work without your continuous support. Next week in Reading, we will be learning more about narrative nonfiction by analyzing the author's purpose in an autobiography. In Social Studies, we will begin discussing how the climate varies in different regions. By the end of this week's Science lesson, students should be able to explain what energy is, describe some forms of energy, and explain how a moving object's speed and energy are related. In Math, scholars will begin with whole numbers and place value relationships including numbers to 1 million, place value relationships and rounding. We will also be taking our MAP Reading and Math Assessments next week. 5th Grade Newsletter: RELA Mrs. Moon This week in RELA, we officially began our curriculum and homework. Next week, We will finish U1 W1: The Path to Paper Son. Students will take their Progress Checks. Next Tuesday, all students will take their MAP Reading assessment. Please ensure that your scholar is on time for school. Social Studies Ms. Tellis Tiger Scholars! This week we started our journey on the timeline of how indigenous people were influenced by migration and we are learning how locations help motivate migration through the pull factor. Students also learned how natural resources help impact living environments. Next week, we will continue our journey and assess our understanding. We will begin Lesson 2 which is the "American Indian Culture!" Let's go Tigers! ~Ms. Tellis~ Science Ms. Johnson We will continue learning about Properties of Matter this week. Students will observe and explain physical properties of matter. Also students will observe and measure properties of materials through scientific exploration. Math Mrs. Linton Philp This week, we will continue to explore whole-number place value and extend our learning to decimal place value and to problem solving. Art Greetings, Scholars are reviewing classroom norms and establishing their work environment.  Art class projects have included: Identifying their "Safe or Brave Spaces." We will be creating our classroom sketchbooks and designing the covers . This is a place or space of their creation that they feel confident, creative, and peaceful.  This can be a fantasy or an actual place.   Thank you, Mr. Dorsey Music We are SO excited to be back at it in the music room. Grades 1-5 are reviewing using interactive activities OR individual QR code review quizzes. We have shared what we are most looking forward to this year and what instruments we’re excited or nervous about playing. We will begin playing THIS WEEK! Wish us luck! Ms. Bautch Technology Welcome back! K-1: Scholars have been practicing mouse skills. 2-5: Scholars have been practicing Home Row keys. Ms. Avsar PE Welcome back to PE! We’re very excited to be back in the building. This week in PE, students are playing a game involving different color hoola hoops and doing different motor skills with each hoop to practice movement, direction following, and to build sportsmanship. Mr. Livas Spanish Welcome back to Spanish scholars. This week students will be reviewing the alphabet, numbers, and colors. Ms. Reid STEM Welcome back to STEM. It was a great second week of school.
