Kindergarten
Week of April 18-22nd
The kindergarten team hopes that everyone has a restful Spring Break and is recharged and ready to go for the last quarter. It is hard to believe that we are in the 4th quarter and the final stretch of the school year. As some regulations have changed, we are now allowed to have parent volunteers. We are also looking into a field trip. If you would like to be a parent volunteer or help chaperone a field trip you will need to provide proof of vaccination and have a background check. you can find information about what is needed for volunteers at the following link: https://www.pgcps.org/offices/humanresources/fingerprinting We will be having a Vocabulary Parade on April 22nd. Information has been given to you prior to Spring Break via a link and/or an information packet. I hope your scholars are as excited about this event as the staff is. Make sure you are creative with the vocabulary outfit. We are moving into warmer weather and students need to stay hydrated. We do not have water fountains open for use. The water bottle portion works so we ask that you send your scholar to school with a water bottle, preferably a reusable water bottle. As we are entering the 4th quarter, it is a good time to make sure that materials are replenished. We also ask that you check their homework folders as some may need to be replaced. This week in ELA we will: -Learn sight words: brown, black, white -Learn short and long /e/ -Review bossy /e/ -Review fiction and story elements This week in Social Studies we will: -Continue time and chronology -Review vocabulary: past, present, future -Review ways we can measure time: clocks, calendars, weeks, months This week in Math we will: -Analyze and Compare 2D and 3D shapes -Describe shapes -Identify shapes based on description (#of sides, # of corners, shapes used to create a 3D shapes) This week in Science we will: -Learn about and observe the life cycle of a butterfly -Learn about metamorphosis -Learn about the life cycle of animals Dates to know: April 11 - April 18 Spring Break, No School

Students are required to fill out the make-up form BEFORE attempting to redo the assignment (located in Google Classroom). Also, teachers have to approve the student before they do the assignment because not all assignments are eligible for make-up. Please express to your scholar the importance of turning in their own work on time. If they have not attempted to complete the assignment and it is late, it will NOT be accepted, per the PGCPS Grading Policy. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description. ClassDojo is our main form of communication. Please join your scholar’s homeroom teacher’s ClassDojo. Please check ClassDojo for any updates and new information to be shared. Lastly, please be sure to check SchoolMax for all graded assignments. Have a great week! Third Grade Team

In RELA, we have completed Unit 4 Week 2. When we return we will be moving into Unit 4 Week 3. Upon our return from Spring Break, our skills will be Science Fiction Writing, summarizing, and interpreting text structure. In Social Studies, we have studied how our nation extended West and have stretched across the world with its influence of industrialization and the desire to barter, impact, and profit from the resources of trade and hard work. Students have delved into the impact of national and world trade. We will continue to delve into the impact of our nation’s choices of industrialization and immigration. Our Mathematicians are exploring the volume of rectangular prisms. Students will use models and previously learned knowledge about volumes to choose appropriate tools to solve problems involving volume and additive volume of two combined rectangular prisms. After Spring Break, students will review how humans impact Earth’s resources and describe ways that we can protect Earth’s environment and resources. Students will wrap up the topic by taking the Topic 5 assessment and begin Topic 6- The Solar System. Again, have a safe Spring Break!
