Happy March and Happy Women's History Month!! We will be taking time this month to celebrate women and their amazing contributions to societies around the world. We have started DRA testing and will continue the assessment this week. DRA's allow us to assess your scholar's reading and comprehension levels. Make sure your scholars are getting a good night's sleep and having a good breakfast. We also ask that you help reinforce the importance of taking their time, being focused, and doing their best. As we start transitioning into warmer weather, we ask that you send a water bottle to school with your scholar as water fountains are closed. The fountain section is closed, however they have access to the portion that fills water bottles. Make sure that ALL items are labeled. This helps items get returned to your scholar if lost or misplaced. This week in ELA we will: -Continue learning about Myths -Learn sight words: were, some, funny -Review long and short /i/ and /a/ -Learn compound words This week in Social Studies we will: -Learn about neighborhoods -Create a map of our neighborhoods -Learn about street signs; we see where we live This week in Math we will: -Make numbers 17-19 -Find parts of 11-19, when part is 10 -Introduce place value This week in Science we will: -Learn about the needs of plants -Learn about photosynthesis and transpiration -Learn how plants change and adapt to their environment

If they have not attempted to complete the assignment and it is late, it will NOT be accepted, per the PGCPS Grading Policy. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description. Class Dojo is our main form of communication. Please join your scholar’s homeroom teacher’s Class Dojo. Please check Class Dojo for any updates and new information to be shared. Lastly, please be sure to check SchoolMax for all graded assignments. All students should be logging into the correct Zoom for each subject. What's Happening in Fourth Grade
Next week in Reading, students will be comparing & contrasting point of view across two texts and generate questions. In Social Studies, students will continue Chapter 6 The Southeast Region. In Math, students will be using line plots to solve word problems. In Science, students will be able to develop a model of waves using patterns in wave properties. We are strongly encouraging parents to check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your student's grades in all academic areas. Students can request a re-do of an assignment using the Google Form that is posted in Google Classroom. Only assignments that have been assigned or entered in SchoolMax within the last week can be redone unless noted otherwise. Please have your student complete one form for each redo request. Once the form has been submitted, your student's teacher will give out additional information. If students are granted a redo, the assignment(s) must be completed within 3 days from the date assigned. Please remind your scholars to charge their devices nightly and to bring their chargers to school. All students should also have extra masks in their backpacks. We are in need of disinfectant wipes to keep our classrooms clean and germ free. Please consider sending in 1-2 bottles or packages with your scholar in the upcoming weeks. Thanks in advance. Let's have a great week on purpose!!

Greetings Parents! This week in Science, scholars wrapped up Topic 4. Students begin Topic 5- Human Impact on Earth’s Resources, next week. In this topic, scholars will be able to obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth’s resources and environment. This week we will focus on “Division of Fractions.” In this topic, your student will be learning how to interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator and show quotients as fractions and mixed numbers. He or she will solve real-world problems involving division of unit fractions by non-zero whole numbers and division of whole numbers by unit fractions. This week we have continued learning the impact of the Civil War and are moving into Chapter 10. Students have been eager to learn how the Union and the Confederate made intense decisions to fight for what they believed in. The Union won and they learned about the impact of The Battle of Gettysburg. Students understood the impact of slavery and how the choice to fight against it made an impact on our society today. We will assess our Chapter on Monday. We will move into Chapter 10 on Tuesday! This week in RELA, we have finished poetry and focusing on adverbs. Next week, we will be shifting focus to themes and inferences. These should be review skills. Students will be inferring multiple themes within a text. Our spelling skill will be words with syllable patterns. Our grammar skill will be adverbs. Please encourage your students to read at home during their free time. Scholars will begin a Women’s History Month Project. They will work in groups to research a woman who made a great impact on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Technology (STEAM); and, they will create a song, commercial, or speech about her contribution to STEAM. Students will work on this project during Science/Health and Reading.
