|
Chesapeake Math & IT North Elementary is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all of its community members. Now that children who are five and older are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccinations we strongly encourage all students to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
As we prepare for full, 100% in-person instruction, we are requiring all parents to submit their student's COVID vaccine status in order to maintain a healthy educational environment and to properly adhere to quarantining, contact tracing, and testing guidelines.
This information will only be shared with pertinent school personnel and it will allow us to plan for the safest school experience possible.
PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT SEPARATELY.

Week of January 10-14th
|
We would like to start off by thanking everyone for their patience as we have been working around various technology glitches. Both parents and scholars have been doing an excellent job.
If you are unable to log on due to technology issues please inform your scholar's teacher. When we take attendance we can mark the reason for their absence as technology versus unexcused. Your scholar may be marked present if you can still complete daily assignments by 3:00 p.m. via seesaw and/or Google classroom. We also need to know if your scholar will be out due to illness as this will determine if they have an excused or unexcused absence.
In order to help your scholar access various platforms, we are asking that you bookmark frequently used platforms or keep a tab open. For seesaw you may keep a tab open and your scholar logged in. Please help us during this time by showing your scholar where tabs and bookmarks are, especially those who are working more independently.

Please make sure students press turn in when turning in their work in Saavas AND in Google classroom. Please note that we follow the grading policy from PGCPS. Please look over the policy. Students are required to fill out the make-up form BEFORE attempting to redo the assignment (located in google classroom). Also, teachers have to approve the student before they do the assignment because not all assignments are eligible for make-up. Please express to your scholar the importance of turning in their own work on time. If they have not attempted to complete the assignment and it is late, it will NOT be accepted, per the PGCPS Grading Policy. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description.
ClassDojo is our main form of communication. Please join your scholar’s homeroom teacher’s ClassDojo. Please check ClassDojo for any updates and new information to be shared. Lastly, please be sure to check SchoolMax for all graded assignments. All students should be logging into the correct Zoom for each subject. Fifth Grade Newsletter

Happy New Year Families!
The new year has come, and though delayed by winter weather, we are happy to see all of scholars this week! We missed them! Our first day online we talked about expectations of virtual learning, schedules, and how we can extend our in-person classroom to online. Scholars who have been online continued their schedules with minor adjustments. Teachers and scholars are adjusting well!
This week in Math, we will continue working on dividing decimals. Students will use models to visualize the relationship between multiplication and division to divide decimals by a two-digit whole number and also understand that models and the relationship between multiplication and division can be used to divide a decimal by a decimal.
In Science, students are continuing Patterns in Space as we wrap up Topic 7. This week we are reviewing vocabulary and how Earth moves in space in relation to other planets and the sun.
In Social Studies, scholars will continue Chapter 6 focusing on the Key Concepts of the Constitution and Creating a New Nation.
In RELA, students are working on Unit 2 Week 5. This week focuses on a new skill: Comparing texts and synthesizing information from 2 texts. Students will learn about base words and endings and active voice. Beginning this week, students worked on their STEM Fair Research Papers. These skills will continue into next week as we explain and model how shadows and stars show patterns over time.
