WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
As we continue to safely navigate through this pandemic and the cold and flu season, CMIT North Elementary would like to send a friendly reminder to parents/guardians to keep their child(ren) home if they are not feeling well. Resting at home will help them get better more quickly and will prevent them from exposing other children or the staff to their illness. If your child is running a fever of 100.4 or greater, feels nauseous or vomits, and/or has diarrhea they are not permitted to come to school. In addition, they should be fever free and symptom free without medication for a full 24 hours from the onset of the fever or symptoms prior to returning to school. If you have any questions regarding your child’s health and well being, you may reach out to their healthcare provider or you may contact the school nurse, Nurse Ann at sally.warf@pgcps.org. Please review the attached document for additional information: Department of Student Services - Office of School Health “WHEN TO STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL/WORK” - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hipCbk8oPoiXRxt7OEC6juGllBLqwi9t/view?usp=sharing

In Math, students will begin Topic 7: Represent and Interpret Data. In Science, students will continue Topic 3 Lesson 2: Weather/ Seasonal Weather changes / Water cycle. In Reading, they will take their reading quiz on Monday, 12/20. The skill they will work on is Comparing and contrasting the most important points and key details presented in two texts on the same topic. Students will take the Wolf Island Spelling Words List test on Monday 12/20 (for Kelley’s/ Richardson’s Reading Class ONLY). No new words will be given out this week. In Social Studies, students will be taking their Chapter 2 test on Monday, 12/20. Students will complete STEAM activities next week that focus on the skills above. Teachers have sent out the supplies list of the items students will need to bring for next week. Please make sure to look over that supplies list. Please make sure students press turn in when turning in their work in Saavas AND in Google Classroom. Please note that we follow the grading policy from PGCPS. Please look over the policy. Students are required to fill out the make-up form BEFORE attempting to redo the assignment (located in Google Classroom). Also, teachers have to approve the student before they do the assignment because not all assignments are eligible for make-up. Please express to your scholar the importance of turning in their own work on time. If they have not attempted to complete the assignment and it is late, it will NOT be accepted, per the PGCPS Grading Policy. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description. Class Dojo is our main form of communication. Please join your scholar’s homeroom teacher’s Class Dojo. Please check Class Dojo for any updates and new information to be shared. If you would rather use email as your main form of communication, please tell your scholar’s teacher. Lastly, please be sure to check SchoolMax for all graded assignments. All students should be bringing their school devices with them to school daily. Have a great week! Third Grade Team

Fifth Grade Newsletter
Greetings Parents! In RELA this week, students completed Unit 2 Week 3 and began Unit 2 Week 4. We are reading Tracking Monsters, focusing on prefixes il,ir,in,im; perfect verb tenses; evaluating details and text features. Students will be writing informational articles about their winter traditions. This week in Social Studies, we delved into the final lesson (lesson5) of the American Revolution and how it impacted our great nation. Although we have been asynchronous, we have connected the dots on why the British wanted to dictate our society and how that impacted the colonies as well as the Native American Indians. This week is our Chapter 5 Assessment and students have the chance to expose what they have learned or what opportunity is there for them to reconnect to the lesson to fill in any learning gaps. This week we will wrap up the topic of division in math. Our focus will be on problem solving and we will explore different strategies to solve division problems. On Wednesday, December 22nd, students will take the Topic 5 Assessment on division strategies and problem solving. In Science, this week we talked about gravity and its effect on Earth and in space. We also completed a Science lab demonstrating how Earth’s spin affects its shape. Next week, students will discuss how patterns affect brightness of stars and use evidence to compare their brightness and relevant distance. Our scholars are working hard and striving to be successful in their studies. Let's go 5th graders!!!
