Kindergarten
Hello November!
We have made it through another calendar month and almost through the first quarter of kindergarten. The last day of the first quarter is November 16th. We are moving along in our curriculum which means we have started doing the various curriculum lesson quizzes and Topic/Unit Assessments. Scholars have been doing a great job learning how to navigate to their Google Classroom and other various platforms. Make sure that you continue to label all of your scholar's materials with first and last names and if possible grade level. Again, this will help ensure that your scholars get their items back if found and also make them identifiable in the lost and found. This is more important as we move into the colder months and jackets, glove, hats, etc. are being sent with your scholar to school. If you wish for your scholar to have a snack, you can send them with a peanut free snack. The school does not provide snacks for snack time. This week in ELA we will: -Workbook pages 192-198 and 206-208 -Learn sight words: she, see, look -Review short /i/ and short/a/ -Continue learning about author's purpose. -Take the Unit 1 Assessment This week in Social Studies we will: -Take the Chapter 1 Assessment -Start Chapter 2 on National and American Symbols -Discuss what it means to be an American This week in Math we will: -Workbook pages 121-129 and 141-148 -Topic 3 Assessment -Compare groups to 10 -Compare numerals up to 10 This week in Science we will: -Learn about the 5 senses: What are the 5 senses and how we can use them to observe and learn about the world and objects around us Dates to know: Nov. 16-- Last day of 1st quarter Nov 17-- 2 hr early dismissal Nov 24-26-- No School. Thanksgiving Break

Second Grade News
We had an excellent eighth week in second grade. Thank you to all the students who showed their school spirit by dressing up for the different daily themes of spirit week! Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" Throughout the week, we will focus on realistic fiction. The weekly question is, "How can a new place help us change and grow?" The spelling pattern will be Inflected Endings -s, -es, -ed, -ing. In Math, we will be finishing Topic 3 and taking the Topic 3 Assessment. This topic covers adding within 100 using strategies. Updates: Students will begin taking their DRA assessment. It is HIGHLY recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a terrific weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

What's Happening in Fourth Grade
First quarter is slowly coming to an end. We have completed our fall testing, students are getting adjusted to fourth grade, and the stakes are being raised. We have been collecting lots of data to see where our scholars are and how we can continue to enhance and supplement their learning. Next week in Reading, students will be summarizing and analyzing text structure in a biography. In Social Studies, we will continue Chapter 2 focusing on how the growing nation had deep divisions that led to the Civil War. In Math, students will continue working on multiplying whole numbers and in Science students will be learning about how humans use energy. Please check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's grades in all academic areas. Students can request a re-do of an assignment using the Google Form that is posted in Google Classroom. Only assignments that have been assigned or entered in SchoolMax within the last week can be redone unless noted otherwise. Please have your scholar complete one form for each redo request. Once the form has been submitted your scholar's teacher will give out additional information. If students are granted a redo, the assignment(s) must be completed within 3 days from the date assigned. We also want to stress the importance of students using the time assigned in class to complete assignments. Many students have been submitting incomplete assignments or not even making an attempt to complete assignments. Once students fall behind it is very hard for them to catch up. Please encourage your scholar to pay attention in class, ask questions when they don't understand, and submit assignments when they are due. Just a friendly reminder that ClassDojo is the best way to contact us. We are available from 7:55 am-2:55 pm.

Fifth Grade Newsletter
Greetings Parents! Students had fun this week participating in Read-a-Thon Spirit Week! Thank you for your support! In RELA this week, we began Unit 1 Week 5, reading informational text, focusing on text structure and predictions. Students have been writing personal narratives. Next week, we will finish Unit 1 week 5, by taking our progress check and writing our final drafts. In Social Studies this week, we learned about settling in early North American colonies in chapter 3. Next week, we will take the chapter 3 assessment and begin chapter 4 learning about life in the colonies. In Math, we are working in Topic 3: Fluently Multiply Multi Digit Whole Numbers. Your student is learning to fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using various strategies, including standard algorithm. To help your scholar review multiplication, have them review basic multiplication facts and ask them to explain how to multiply 2-digit by 2-digit numbers and 3-digit by 2-digit numbers. Topic 2 in Science is all about changes in matter. After completing this topic, your scholar will be able to measure and graph quantities to provide evidence that regardless of the type of change that occurs when heating, cooling, or mixing substances, the total weight of matter is conserved. Students should start thinking about a topic for the STEAM Fair. The topic choice is due to their Science teacher on December 3rd. For more information, here is the link to the STEM Fair packet: https://bit.ly/STEMfairpacket We have just three weeks left in the first quarter which ends November 17th. Also, look out for information regarding November's Parent University. Have a great week!
