October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
|
Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to spread awareness about the disease that kills nearly 41,000 women each year. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CMIT Tigers will wear pink to help raise awareness. We stand with the women and men who have been affected by the disease. Our official day of support is Friday, October 22.
Did you know that every 2 minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer? It is the second most common cancer affecting women and it is estimated that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Men are affected by the disease as well. These appalling statistics mean that every one of us knows someone who is or has battled breast cancer. Please join us in supporting this cause and be sure to wear pink on October 22!

Career Chats are BACK and We Need YOU!
|
Hello Tiger's Den!
I am going to keep posting this until...well... that is TBD, because I do not have any volunteers yet!
College and Career readiness is something we discuss with even our tiniest of Tigers :)
It is so wonderful to engage in exploratory conversations that ignite curiosity and inspire future goals!
In order to make this part of our curriculum as rich as possible, I am turning to you all, our wonderful Tiger Den Parents and Guardians (and all your many connections in the communities outside our own!)
In place of one big Career Day at the end of the year, we infuse career conversations and presentations all year long! The different exposures and real life interactions that our Tiger's receive from our Career Chats program is priceless. Will you please be a part of it?!
Below is a form to sign up to share 30min-45 minutes of your time and yourself with our Tigers. All of our chats will be virtual, and so you can do it from anywhere!
Share what you do, how you get to where you are and field some inquisitive minds with creative questions :)
You can speak in as many different classes and grade levels as you would like!
You can reach out to stakeholders that may not be directly affiliated with the Den and host them to speak!
I will work with you to schedule a time with the classroom teachers and, Poof! Just like that you have had an even bigger impact on the future!
I am so excited to get these Career Chats going. Start signing up!

Art
Tigers are finishing work that includes art elements like line, repetition, pattern, and value. They are doing well with their observational drawings along with depth of field and changing the context of imagery. Necessary materials include: Sketchbooks/Paper, pencils, and colored pencils or crayons.
Music
K-2 students are exploring the concept of pitch, and second grade is beginning to place pitches on the staff! Third grade is learning note names of the treble and bass clef, and 4th and 5th grade are extending their knowledge of the staff to identify melodies and harmonies and play them on instruments.
Technology
Greetings,
K-2 practiced:
Keyboarding: Locate and Type Letters A, B, C, D, and E
During this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice in keyboarding the letters A, B, C, D, and E as they locate and type the letters, recognize the letter sounds, and learn the relationship between the letters on the keyboard and on the screen.
3-5 practiced:
Netiquette in Online Communication
In this animated video, Trey and two of his classmates are collaborating on their Virtual Science Fair project in a private chatroom when netiquette issues derail them from their task. The lesson introduces what netiquette is, why it’s important, and shows some of the negative sides of online communication.
PE: Another Great week in PE! I can't wait to get all of our students back in the building, but in the meantime just continue to work on your assignments in Google Classroom as they are assigned to you.
Spanish: Students will be reviewing Spanish colors, numbers, and exploring shapes.
STEAM: We have continued the rainbow milk experiment this week with scholars. It was great to see their facial expressions when they saw how food colorings spread out the corners of the Tigers when we added some dish soap. Way to go!
