This is a gentle reminder of our NEW ABSENCE/TARDY/EARLY DISMISSAL reporting system procedure. ABSENCES: Notification of absences, doctor notes, and early dismissal notes NEED TO BE RECORDED/UPLOADED using the CMIT North Elementary School Absence Form (ONLY) within three (3) days of your child’s return. Family vacations/trips are not considered excused absences; therefore, it is strongly discouraged to schedule family vacations during school time. 2021-22 Publicity Release Form | Guidance Document for Schools
AS OF FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8TH APPROXIMATELY 45 % OF THE SCHOOL POPULATION HAS FILLED OUT THIS FORM. LET'S SEE IF WE CAN MAKE IT 100%! Throughout the school year, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) and the Prince George’s County Board of Education conduct activities that may be publicized by local or national news media or used to promote the school system. Publicity activities include interviews, photographs or videos of individuals or groups of students, or student works (including, but not limited to, artistic works, athletic activities, performances and competitions) that may be used in websites, social media such as Facebook and Twitter, print or online publications, or videos. IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO...Please fill out a Publicity Release Form for all students at CMIT North Elementary (CMIT MS/HS will send there's separately). PTO ANNOUNCEMENT: Read-A-Thon *Membership Drive *Teacher Snack Shack *Spirit Wear
Hello Tiger Family, We have some exciting things happening! 1st Annual Read-A-Thon - This Monday, October 11th, we're kicking off our first annual Read-A-Thon! This fundraiser not only supports our school, but also supports each student's personal reading development goal. How it Works: students will collect pledges online from family and friends between October 11th-24th. Donations can either be in the form of donations per minute read or a flat pledge amount. Students will then read for a total of 60 minutes during the week of October 25th-29th. To celebrate the Read-A-Thon we will have Spirit Week the week of October 25th-29th with a different theme everyday! Raise money to earn prizes like: Principal for a Day, Front Door Drop Off for a week, Silly String a Teacher, Amazon Kindles, and so much more! Stay tuned for more info! Membership Drive - We need you!!! Membership is our biggest fundraiser and the best way to keep you connected to the Tiger community. Your membership dues help us pay for things like curriculum aides such as IXL and SmartBoards. Dues are $21, but if you donate $30, $40, or $50 all of your donation will go towards our technology fund to help purchase additional SmartBoards and IXL software. Week of October 11th
The picture says it all. There is a lot going on this month, especially the next couple of weeks. Make sure to keep an eye on the newsletter, emails, dojo stories and messages. Give your scholars a big hug and congratulations for completing their first MAP assessment. We will be taking the Math MAP assessment on Tuesday, October 12th. We will also be taking the NWEA MAP Reading Fluency assessment this week. While the Math MAP will occur as a whole class assessment, the Reading Fluency will occur in small groups. Your scholars teacher will inform you on which day(s) they plan on giving the assessment. We ask that you ensure your scholar has a good nights sleep before these assessments in order to help them focus and do their best. We have Parent-Teacher conferences on Monday, October 11th. The conferences will be virtual and your scholar's teacher will provide you with their school link. Keep in mind that time slots are for 15 minutes. In order to help things move in a timely manner, please have in mind any questions you would like to ask your scholar's teacher. As we move into cooler mornings, make sure that jackets and sweaters have your scholar's name in them. Items with names are more likely to be found and/or returned. On Friday, October 22nd we will be having our pumpkin day. This is a day in which we explore all things pumpkin. We will have a pumpkin in the classroom to explore and do experiments with. We will also get to feel the insides. We will create art using pumpkin seeds and many other activities. On Friday, October 29th we will have character day. Scholars will choose a book from home and do a book report on this book. On October 29th your scholar can dress as a character from the story. While they are dressed as the character, they will share their story to the class. More information will come in the following weeks regarding the book report. This week in ELA we will: -Workbook pages 102-124 -Learn about plural nouns -Review letters P and C -Take SAVVAS weekly check-up as an assessment grade This week in Social Studies we will: -Learn about leaders, who leaders are and how they make laws. -Learn about leaders at school, in the community, and the nation This week in Math we will: -Workbook pages 77-84 -Continue comparing numbers 0-5 This week in Science we will: -Continue learning about how objects move -Start learning about how forces create changes in movement Dates to know: Oct 11---Parent-Teacher conferences (no school for students) Oct 12-- MAP Math assessment Oct 13-14--- MAP Reading Fluency Oct 15---- No school

First Grade News and Reminders
Hello Families: Please be sure that your child is connected to their teacher's Google Classroom, if you have any questions reach out to your child's teacher directly. Homework is assigned on Monday and should be uploaded no later than 3:25 p.m. on Friday (or the last day of the school week). Reminders: Your student should have their charged PGCPS issued device, charger, and 1 set of headphones daily. Please use a sticky to add their username and password to their device so that students are able to log in. Please contact help@cmitelementary.org if you have any questions or issues concerning technology. Students need to have at least 3 pencils, 1 sharpener, 1 box of crayons, 1 pair of scissors, 1 glue stick, 2 folders, 3 composition books, 1 personal hand sanitizer, and at least 1 extra mask in their backpack daily. Please be sure to contact your child's teacher directly (via email or dojo) if dismissal plans change. Please follow proper protocols if your child is not feeling well and complete the Frontline health check before your child comes into the school building. 2nd Grade News
We had a fantastic fifth week in second grade. Next week, we will continue using our curriculum. Students will still be able to access all assignments either through Google Classroom or their workbooks that should have been picked up from the school. If there are any assignments where this is not the case, your child's teacher will reach out to you and let you know. Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" Throughout the week, we will focus on informational text. The weekly question is, "How do different places make us feel?" The spelling pattern will be Consonant Digraphs ch, sh, wh, th, ph and Trigraph tch. In Math, we will be finishing Topic 2. This topic covers working with equal groups. We will be taking our Topic 2 Assessment. Updates: Students will continue taking their MAP Reading and Math assessments. Students will begin taking their MAP Reading Fluency assessment. It is HIGHLY recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a terrific weekend and we will see everyone on Monday for parent - teacher conferences!

Hello to Another Week of Learning!
In Math, students will be starting Topic 3 applying Properties: Multiplication Facts for 3, 4, 6, 7, 8. In Science, students will continue with Topic 1, which is Motion and Forces. In Reading, they will be reviewing for their progress check-up assessment Tuesday. Their progress check-up assessment will be given on Wednesday. They will begin Week 4: Informational Text on Thursday. The skills they will be taught are Figurative language: Similes. In Writing, they will continue Personal Narrative. They will begin to create their own personal narrative based on the topic they chose. They will also be completing their spelling test on Wednesday. New words will go out Thursday. In Social Studies, students will be learning about how to interact with land and water in Chapter 1. Students will be turning in all homework assignments by each Friday. Class Dojo is our main form of communication. Please join your scholar’s homeroom teacher’s Class Dojo. Please check Class Dojo for any updates and new information to be shared. If you would rather use email as your main use of communication, please tell your scholar’s teacher. Lastly, please be sure to check SchoolMax for all graded assignments. As a reminder, scholars will have an opportunity to resubmit assignments to improve their grades. Weekly grades will be entered by Sunday at midnight. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description. All students should be bringing their school devices with them to school daily. What's Happening Next Week
We are just about half way through the quarter. Students are understanding what is expected of them and are working hard to meet the expectations. We are looking forward to see students' continuous progress as readers, writers, scientists, and mathematicians. Next week in Reading, students will be identifying the main idea and details and evaluating details in an informational text. In Social Studies, students will be studying how people change and adapt to their environment. In Math, students will be adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. In Science, students will continue with Energy, Motion, & Speed. Parent Teacher conferences are on 10/11/2015. A Sign-up Genius was shared via ClassDojo. If you would like to meet with your scholar's teachers and there is no time slot available please reach out to your scholar's teachers to set up a meeting. Just a friendly reminder to check SchoolMax weekly to see your scholar's current standing in all subject areas. Also, ClassDojo is our primary method of contact. Fifth Grade Newsletter
Greetings Parents, Our academic studies continue with new skills and reinforcement of previous learning. This week in RELA, we focused on historical fiction, point of view, and compound/complex sentences. Next week, we will take our progress check for U1W3. This week in Social Studies, we learned about the Age of Exploration in Chapter 2. Next week, we will finish Chapter 2 with our review and assessment. In Math this week, we focused on decimals and began learning strategies to add and subtract decimals. Next week, we will reinforce learned strategies--estimation, and using base ten blocks and hundredths grids. We will also learn new strategies-- partial sums and partial differences. Scholars will have their Topic 2 assessment on October 21st. This week in Science, we reviewed changes in matter and compared and contrasted atoms and molecules. Next week, we will take our quiz for Topic 1 Lesson 2: Model Matter and finish our first Topic with Lesson 3: Properties of Matter. Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday October 11th. Sign-up Genius links were sent out this week through ClassDojo. If you have any questions or concerns regarding assignments and grades, please bring them to your scholar's conference, and continue to check SchoolMax weekly. Career Chats are BACK! and we Need YOU!
Hello Tiger's Den! College and Career readiness is something we discuss with even our tiniest of Tigers :) It is so wonderful to engage in exploratory conversations that ignite curiosity and inspire future goals! In order to make this part of our curriculum as rich as possible, I am turning to you all, our wonderful Tiger Den Parents and Guardians (and all your many connections in the communities outside our own!) In place a one big Career Day at the end of the year, we infuse career conversations and presentations all year long! The different exposures and real life interactions that our Tiger's receive from our Career Chats program is priceless. Will you please be a part of it?! Specials are Moving and Grooving!
STEM: We have past another great week with our CMIT Scholars. In STEM Class students researched topics for their STEM Fair projects. We can't wait to see all the amazing projects. Music: Students have learned songs and dances in Spanish from Spanish speaking countries to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. We also shared cultures that were part of our family lives. We have so many amazing cultures here at CMIT. I truly enjoyed learning more about our scholars and their families and traditions. Spanish Teacher: This week scholars will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Technology: Greetings, K-1: Introduction to Digital Citizenship: Cyberbullying This colorful and engaging video introduces students to the basics of dealing with cyberbullying on the internet. 2-5 : Virtual Classroom Meetings In this animated video, Trey introduces the learner to video conferencing and how to prepare for and participate in virtual classroom meetings using available software and hardware tools. Art: Greetings, Our next weeks project included elements like line, repetition, pattern, value, and color. They will continue their work on linear observations along with depth of field' overlapping, foreshortening, and changing the context of imagery. Thank you! Mr. Dorsey PE: Another Great week in PE! I can't wait to get all of our students back in the building, but in the meantime just continue to work on your assignments in Google classroom is they have been assigned to you.
