Student Meals Update
Student Suppers to be Discontinued Beginning the week of October 4, PGCPS will discontinue the distribution of student suppers outside of Before and After School Enrichment programs due to supply shortages. With meals being free for all students nationwide, increased demand has placed a strain on food companies. Free breakfast and lunch for all students will continue in schools daily along with weekly meal distribution for virtual learning students. Families should anticipate menu changes as our Food and Nutrition Services team explores different options and meal substitutions in light of the supply shortage. Changes to school lunch menus will be reflected in our online Meal Viewer (https://schools.mealviewer.com/district/PrinceGeorgesCounty).

WorldStrides Program to Kennedy Space Center
Dear Parents and Students, I am excited to announce that I will lead a group of Chesapeake Math & It Academy Middle and High school students on a WorldStrides program to Kennedy Space Center, FL. On this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, students will experience incomparable learning moments while exploring the birthplace of U.S. space travel and some of our nation's most diverse marine ecosystems. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will inspire your child to think about the future, pursue goals, and create lifelong memories. Your child will return home excited to tell you about: - Feeling the thrill of blasting into space through a launch simulator at Kennedy Space Center - Learning about the engineering behind roller coasters as you tour a Disney park - Getting up close and personal with some of the unique wildlife found throughout Florida I have chosen to travel with WorldStrides because of their exceptional service, their 50 years of experience, their safety record, and their preventive measures that ensure learning occurs in a safe and fun environment. I will chaperone the program with other teachers as needed, and throughout the program, our group will be guided by a WorldStrides-certified Course Leader 24 hours a day. Since this is not a school-sponsored trip, we will not be attending as representatives or employees of the school. Hello October
Welcome October! We have made it through the first month of Kindergarten. We are moving along with various assessments and the curriculum. We have almost completed the KRA assessment and are getting ready to begin MAP assessments. Our first MAP assessment will occur this Friday, Oct. 8th and will be MAP-Reading. MAP is an adaptive computerized assessment. Make sure that your scholars device is charged and that they have headphones with them. We also advise that your scholar has a good nights sleep and a good breakfast in order to help ensure they are able to focus and do their best on the assessment. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, October 11th. We will be using Sign-up Genius for you to schedule a time to meet with your scholar's teacher. Your scholar's teacher will provide you with the link at the beginning of the week. If you are unable to make any of the times available, reach out to your scholar's teacher and we can work with you on scheduling another time. We ask that you label all of your scholar's belongings and clothing to help us get misplaced belongings back to who they belong to. This is important now as the weather starts to change and sweaters and light jackets are being worn to school. Make sure that you are sending your scholar to school daily with their device as they will be using them almost daily in school. 2nd Grade News
We had a fantastic fourth week in second grade. Next week, we will continue using our curriculum. Students will still be able to access all assignments either through Google Classroom or their workbooks that should have been picked up from the school. If there are any assignments where this is not the case, your child's teacher will reach out to you and let you know. Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" Throughout the week, we will focus on informational text. The weekly question is, "How do different places make us feel?" We will continue to work on consonant blends. There will not be a spelling test next week. In Math, we will be starting Topic 2. This topic covers working with equal groups. It is HIGHLY recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a terrific weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

Parent Results and Counseling Updates!
Hello Tiger's Den! Below is a link to the results of the Parent Needs Assessment for the School Counseling program. THANK YOU to those who participated. Your voices have been heard, and opinions valued! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1owYz7STc4pJH5e4w3rCkmtMAV6rN-55Y/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=100944258265467331675&rtpof=true&sd=true I have included all of the scaled responses, as well as the free space answers [I only took out identifying details]. This assessment exists as a proactive action step at the start of the year (especially one where we are coming back together after the last one we had!), and provide a platform to share thoughts and concerns to help enrich the counseling program at CMIT-N-ES. I will continue to share data like this and the efforts directly aligned to it throughout the year. I share all of the anonymous feedback for transparency and accountability, but also because it is important to broaden our perspectives and see how others are feeling and experiencing in our shared Tiger's Den. For example: compare the celebrations of the caring and kind staff and the appreciated response time and communication from teachers, to the very same points coming up as concerns and frustrations others have felt. You see how creating and maintaining a school-wide culture and climate can be tricky work :) STUDENTS: I have been in the classrooms last week and this week to collect my student data, and share those classroom results with the teachers to partner with them shaping the classroom climates. COFFEE COLLABORATIONS We had a great first "meet & greet" Coffee Collaborations where we were able to connect cross-grade-levels and throw out some ideas for future topics. Our next one will be: Friday, Oct 8 @9:00am (via zoom link, sent closer to the time!) Topic: Attention Seeking Behaviors

Graciously, Your School Counselor [Ms. Whitney Green]
