ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL - CONSTRUCTION - TRAFFIC IMPACTS
|
This message should be read carefully and in its entirety.
We have been advised, beginning Friday, September 17th there will be construction on Sweitzer Lane. The construction is scheduled to begin in the morning at approximately 7 A.M. and continue through to 3 P.M. daily for the duration of the entire school year. This will cause a lane closure from Rt. 198 to the stop sign at the Sweitzer Lane and Chevy Chase Drive intersection. This closure will potentially have an impact on your arrival and dismissal arrangements.
Please consider using Konterra Drive as an alternative route to gain access to the school to avoid the potential backup from Rt. 198.
We are asking for your patience, adherence to all directions given by staff, and to plan accordingly to adjust your arrival and departure schedules. Please remember the following:
There will be NO Parent walk-ups accepted with students for arrival or to pick up at dismissal.
For Uber/Lyft riders or non-drivers please call the front office at 240-573-7240 for additional information.
CMIT MS/HS students should follow directions provided from your school administration.
With cooperation from everyone we will get through this as smoothly as possible.
Thank you.

2nd Grade News

We had a super second week in second grade. Students were introduced to the second grade curriculum. It was great to see everyone who made it out to the virtual back to school night!
Next week, we will continue to work on classroom routines. We will also continue using our curriculum. Students will still be able to access all assignments either through Google Classroom or their workbooks that should have been picked up from the school. If there are any assignments where this is not the case, your child's teacher will reach out to you and let you know.
Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" In class, we will be taking our first weekly assessment in ELA. Throughout the week, we will focus on realistic fiction. The weekly question is, "How can people improve their neighborhoods?" The spelling pattern will be Long Vowels: CVCe. In Math, we will continue working on Topic 1. This topic covers fluently adding within 20.
Since we will be using the curriculum for the first time, we are anticipating a few problems with logging in or accessing material. We will continue to practice and strive to be tech-savvy tigers.
It is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo.
Have a terrific weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

What's Happening Next Week
|
We have completed our first week of 4th grade! We began our curriculum this week and students are getting a first hand experience of what is expected of them in fourth grade. Like we discussed during Back to School Night, students are required to work more independently and complete assignments in a timely manner. Please encourage your scholar to complete his/her assignments when assigned and submit assignments when they are due. By staying on top of their studies, it would minimize the amount of missing assignments.
Here's what we will be studying next week:
Reading- Students will be analyzing how an author supports ideas with details in an autobiography.
Writing: Students will use elements of narrative nonfiction writing to write a personal narrative.
Health- Students will continue learning how exercise is good for the body.
Science- Students will continue with energy & motion.
Math- Students will continue with place value.
Just a reminder that all students should have a school issued device. If your scholar needs a device please use the link below to request a device. Once the information is received a device will be delivered to your scholar's homeroom.

Dear Families,
Thank you for joining us for Back to School Night! We appreciate your time and commitment to the school community.
We had a wonderful start to our curriculum this week! In RELA we began reading
"The Path to Paper Son," focusing on main idea and details and worked on personal narratives. We will begin spelling homework. Students will take their first spelling test on Monday 9/20. They will take their Reading and Writing Progress Checks (assessments) on Tuesday 9/21. On Thursday, students will begin working on test features while reading from Life on Earth-and Beyond.
In Social Studies this week, we focused on American Indian Civilizations and Geography. We will continue this next week as we move through Chapter 1.
In Math, we will continue working on place value, mastering powers of ten, and focus on decimal place value including comparing and rounding decimals.
After being introduced to properties of matter, we will begin to observe and measure properties of materials, focusing on the Science Engineering Practice 3: Planning and Carrying Out Investigations by making observations and measurements to produce data. Please look out for a Class Dojo message from your scholar's teacher next week regarding science tools and materials.
It is very important that scholars are bringing school issued devices to school daily. We encourage them to charge their devices nightly so that it is ready in the morning. Most of the work that we will be doing in class will be completed online. If you have questions, comments or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us on Class Dojo.
Have a great week!

Coffee Collaborations with your School Counselor (thats me!)
Grab a cup of java, or tea, or anything you want, and hang out with me and other Tiger parents in a completely casual setting (and because it will remain virtual this year, it is truly as casual and comfy as you want!), and chat together about specific topics that are relevant to our Tiger cubs. I provide a theme and mini start to the dialogue, and then we hang out, share thoughts and experiences, and hold space together.
Topics include specific strategies for Tigers, as well as Tiger parents/guardians. I can't wait to be with you soon!
