2nd Grade News
We had a fantastic first week in second grade. Students were able to spend the week getting to know their teachers, each other, and classroom expectations. Next week, we will continue to work on classroom routines. We will also begin using our curriculum. Students will still be able to access all assignments either through Google Classroom or their workbooks that should have been picked up from the school. If there are any assignments where this is not the case, your child's teacher will reach out to you and let you know. Next week, we will begin Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." In class, we will be reading "How Many Stars in the Sky." The big question for the unit is "How do different places affect us?" Throughout the week, we will focus on realistic fiction. The weekly question is, "What can we understand about a place when we look at it closely. The spelling pattern will be long and short vowels. In math, we will begin working on Topic 1. This topic covers fluently adding within 20. Since we will be using the curriculum for the first time, we are anticipating a few problems with logging in or accessing material. We will continue to practice and strive to be tech-savvy tigers. It is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. Attached below is a Google Classroom Tutorial for Beginners. There are many other useful tutorials that you can find on YouTube as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88idNZxeZbo If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a terrific weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

This week we spent some time getting to know each other, creating expectations for our learning spaces, and gearing up for what's in store for the upcoming weeks. We are looking forward to seeing the amazing work that students will produce this school year. Next week, we will begin our curriculum in all subject areas. In Math, students will begin discussing place value. In Science, students will begin Energy & Motion. Counselors Corner
Parents, I want to hear from YOU!
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening! As your School Counselor, I recognize that these last 18+ months have provided experiences unlike any we have known before. In as much, I also recognize that this has provided me an opportunity to explore and tackle and expand my relationship with our Tigers in ways that I had not imagined before (who knew I would spend my Friday nights watching a movie with all of them over Zoom, or that we would navigate together how to be close and from a distance?) As we approach this year together, bringing with us all of our unique feelings and thoughts that came from the last year, I am asking for your direct input in my curriculum and program planning for this school year. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey to help shape my program's efforts this year. Just as in years passed, I will compile all of the results and share them with you, so as you can help to hold me, (and our incredible CMIT Tiger's Den) accountable for the input you provided and the efforts that follow in addressing them. Stay Tuned... Thank You So Much! Ms. Whitney Green School Counselor writchie@cmitelementary.org https://forms.gle/csVV22AMJmmMTh916

Graciously, Your School Counselor [Ms. Whitney Green]
