What's Happening In Third Grade
|
We have entered the final quarter of Third Grade. We are almost finished. Let's continue to encourage our scholars to continue to work hard and finish the year strong.
Just a friendly reminder to check SchoolMax weekly for your scholar's current standings in all of their classes. Encourage your scholar to stay on top of their assignments and complete their work in a timely manner. It is very easy to fall behind and we want to ensure that all scholars are successful. As a reminder, scholars will have an opportunity to resubmit assignments to improve their grades. Weekly grades will be entered by Sunday at midnight. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description.
Next week, scholars will be starting topic 14 Solve Time, Capacity, and Mass Problems. In Science, scholars will continue Topic 5 Life Cycle Traits. In Reading, scholars will take the Unit 3 Progress Check and begin Unit 4 Events. In Social Studies, we will finish Chapter 5 Citizenship and Civic Engagement.
Please remind your scholar to log back into class at the designated time so that they are not missing out on instruction. Our time is limited with students and we would like to maximize our time with students. Please encourage your scholar to log in to Zoom on time for every class.
We also want to share with families that Class Dojo is our main communication platform to share information with families quickly. Please check Class Dojo daily for any updates and new information shared.
Have an awesome week... on purpose!!

****5th Grade VIRTUAL Graduation form**** If you have not done so already, please complete the form giving permission for your child's photo to be displayed during our ceremony. 1. The form is asking for a publicity release so that I may include your child's photo in our end of year slideshow. 2. I ask that you submit ONE clear photo of your scholar to be displayed and included within the slideshow of the fifth graders. 3. If you DO NOT wish to have your child's photo displayed to others, I ask that you have them create a bitmoji of themselves so that they are still included within the presentation. 4. Please DO NOT include both a photo AND a bitmoji. I only need one. If you give a picture I will take that over a bitmoji. Greetings CMIT Tigers,
Technology:
K-2 practiced - Computational Thinking: Directions
The learners receive direct instruction and practice with computational thinking and using directions as a list of ordered steps that explain how to accomplish a task, achieve a goal, or solve a problem. They collect and organize information to create a set of directions that they test for accuracy and completeness in this engaging and interactive digital lesson.
3-5 practiced - Tynker Coding: Sequencing
A puzzle-based introduction to coding concepts for beginners where they learn sequencing, pattern recognition, loops, and conditional logic.
Music:
Fourth and fifth grade musicians are creating playlists and using music to describe and express feelings. It's so fun to learn about their musical tastes and what feelings they attribute to musical genres. First and third graders just finished up their Fairy Tales unit, and will be moving on to musical articulations. Second graders finally got to begin their Fairy Tales and will be finishing next week. Kindergarteners are hard at work preparing songs for kindergarten promotion - they are so excited for grown ups to hear!
Media:
Kindergarten and 1st grade: After listening to an E-series, students will answer comprehension questions.
2nd and 3rd grade: The students will continue to recall facts from the E-book series to answer comprehension questions over the next few weeks. The students have 2 more books left in the series.
4th and 5th Grade: Using various resources, students will continue to focus on how viewers read a work of art as a text. They will complete a photo analysis worksheet after reviewing the work of art with their group.
Encourage students to read for 15 - 30 minutes 3-4 times a week and ask questions about what they are reading.
Our greatest natural resource is in the minds of children. – Walt Disney
Lego:
K-2nd grade students will build their lego model then explain the reasoning behind the model that he or she has built.
3-5th grade: We are working with arrays. Students will understand the concept of an array and its elements. They will learn how to use indexes to access array elements. They will complete challenges 55-60.
Art:
Tigers are being encouraged to focus on their craftsmanship and presentation as they finish their projects and create video artist statements. Emphasizing the importance of neatness, details, and completeness before reflecting on their work.
Physical Education:
Students will continue to work on Fitness Testing and we will complete the test this week. In the month of May, we will start to work on volleying. Thank you for allowing your children to move around freely at home this year, it has been so much fun to watch on Zoom.
