We are officially is the last quarter of the year. There will be a great deal of information coming your way over the next several weeks, so make sure you are keeping an eye out in your emails and on dojo for information. We are starting to prepare for our promotion ceremony at the end of the year. Your scholars teacher will be asking for information from you as well as for photos of your scholars to be emailed to the class liaisons. There will also be a poem and a song sent to you in order for you to help your scholar memorize the material.
We have made it through the first couple days of hybrid learning. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have been working through connectivity issues and other tech issues. We ask that you stay patient as we continue to troubleshoot and work through issues. Make sure that you are checking your scholars class story in dojo for updates that may occur throughout the day (ex. moving from Zoom to Google Meet).

Next week in Reading, we will continue Unit 4: "Making a Difference." The big question for the unit is "Why is it important to connect with other people?" The question of the week is "What can people do to make a difference in their community?" Throughout the week, we will focus on realistic fiction. The spelling pattern will be Suffixes -ly, -ful, -er, -less, -or. In Math, we will continue Topic 8. This topic covers time and money.

What's Happening In Third Grade

Just a friendly reminder to check SchoolMax weekly for your scholar's current standings in all of their classes. Encourage your scholar to stay on top of their assignments and complete their work in a timely manner. It is very easy to fall behind and we want to ensure that all scholars are successful. As a reminder, scholars will have an opportunity to resubmit assignments to improve their grades. Weekly grades will be entered by Sunday at midnight. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description.
Next week scholars will be starting topic 10, Multiply by Multiples of 10. Students will take the assessment on 4/15 and 4/16. In Science, scholars will take the Climate lesson 4 assessment. In Reading, scholars will explore the theme of Heroes by working collaboratively to research and write an opinion speech about why it is important to take advantage of opportunities to be heroic. In Social Studies, we will continue with Chapter 5 Citizenship and Civic Engagement.
Please remind your scholar to log back into class at the designated time so that they are not missing out on instruction. Our time is limited with students and we would like to maximize our time with students. Please encourage your scholar to log in to Zoom on time for every class.
We also want to share with families that Class Dojo is our main communication platform to share information with families quickly. Please check Class Dojo daily for any updates and new information shared.
Have an awesome week... on purpose!!

Hello parents!
April showers bring May flowers! In addition to a new quarter, quarter 4. Let’s end this year with a bang, we can do it and so can our wonderful tigers!
Here is your week at a glance. For Math, we will continue with fractions and proceed to dividing fractions. We will be at the end of this unit soon. Thus, we recommend students continue practicing on their own time multiplying fractions from the week before.
As for Science, we will steam forward through the solar system and make sure we thoroughly understand the vocabulary in topic 6. The e-txt has been posted and we are reading through this chapter and making sure we understand concepts previously visited and any misconceptions we had in the fall about it.
In Health, we are starting to use more of our harmony health curriculum, where as a question is posted to help peer connect with their peers and build social emotional skills.
In Reading, students will read and discuss the informational text from "The Bill of Rights." Students will practice the skill of identifying various word parts in the beginning of a word to determine its origin and meaning. Students will also continue writing and revising their Opinion Essay.
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 5: Lesson 3 Declaring Independence. Students will understand the importance of the United States declaring independence from Great Britain.
Thank you again for your continuous support!
Reminder:
Check SchoolMax weekly
Sincerely,
5th Grade Team
