PGCPS Updated Spring Break Travel Guidance
Updated Spring Break Travel Guidance Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) issued guidelines earlier this week regarding travel during Spring Break. The guidelines have been updated to reflect Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations regarding testing. The CDC does not recommend travel at this time. If you must travel due to family emergency or unforeseen circumstances, you must be tested upon your return to Maryland. If you test positive, alert your principal/supervisor. Quarantine is only to be used if you receive a positive test result. PGCPS Student Guidelines: In-State Travel – No COVID Test Required Out-of-State Travel – COVID Test Get a COVID test three to five days after travel. - If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected. - Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days. - Continue virtual learning during quarantine. Be sure to inform your teacher and school administrator. International Travel – COVID Test - Get a COVID test three to five days after travel. - If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected. - Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days. - Continue virtual learning during quarantine. Be sure to inform your teacher and school administrator. CDC Guidelines At this time, the CDC does not have a testing requirement for outbound travelers, but recommends that you get tested with a viral test (NAAT or antigen) one to three days before you travel internationally. Travelers should check with international destinations for their entry requirements. - As of March 2, 2021, if you plan to travel internationally, you will need to get tested no more than three days before you travel by air back into the United States (U.S.) and show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight, or be prepared to show documentation of recovery (proof of a recent positive viral test and a letter from your health care provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel). - All air passengers traveling to the U.S., regardless of vaccination or antibody status, are required to provide a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery (proof of recovery from the coronavirus within the last 90 days). - Passengers flying from a U.S. territory to a U.S. state (i.e., American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands) are not required to present documentation of a negative COVID-19 test or recovery. For more information, please visit the PGCPS and CDC websites. We had a great spring break! Next week in Reading, we will continue Unit 4: "Making a Difference." The big question for the unit is "Why is it important to connect with other people?" There will not be a spelling list for the week. In Math, we will continue Topic 8. This topic covers time and money. As a reminder, it is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. What's Happening in Third Grade
Just a friendly reminder to check SchoolMax weekly for your scholar's current standings in all of their classes. Encourage your scholar to stay on top of their assignments and complete their work in a timely manner. It is very easy to fall behind and we want to ensure that all scholars are successful. As a reminder, scholars will have an opportunity to resubmit assignments to improve their grades. Weekly grades will be entered by Sunday at midnight. Parents will have until Wednesday to request a redo of an assignment. Resubmissions must be submitted by the following Sunday. If an assignment is not eligible for a redo, teachers will put "not eligible for redo" in the assignment description. After spring break, scholars will be starting topic 10, Multiply by Multiples of 10. In Science, scholars will take the Climate lesson 4 quiz. In Reading, scholars will be identifying characteristics of poetry. In Social Studies, we will begin Chapter 5 Citizenship and Civic Engagement. Many students have been signing into Zoom late after breaks. It is important that students are logging into back into class at the designated time so that they are not missing out on instruction. Our time is limited with students and we would like to maximize our time with students. Please encourage your scholar to log in to Zoom on time for every class. We also want to share with families that Class Dojo is our main communication platform to share information with families quickly. Please check Class Dojo daily for any updates and new information shared. Have an awesome week... on purpose!!

Newsletter Week of 04/06-04/09
Last week in RELA, we analyzed and synthesized information about characters, while reading, "Can you Guess My Name?" We also shared stories with our small groups. When we return from spring break, we will begin to infer theme while reading a tall tale: "Thunder Rose." Last week in Social Studies, we began our new unit on the MidWest region of the United States. After spring break, we will continue learning about the natural resources, climate and weather, and history of the MidWest region. Last week in Math, we started discussing decimals and how they relate to fractions. We will also be discussing money later in the chapter after break. Last week in Science, we continued to discuss Earth’s natural hazards. Our next chapter will be on the history of the Earth as it relates to rock formations and fossils. We cannot wait to see you again after spring break, on Tuesday, April 6th!

5th grade Newsletter
Hello! Welcome to the end of March! We did it! Here is what to look forward to after spring break: In Math, we will continue multiplying and dividing fractions. In Science, we will continue to revisit the topic on the solar system. Have your scholar stay sharp with their math and science skills by logging onto IXL and complete practice problems on multiplying and dividing fractions. For ELA, students will do a 2 week study on informational text with the story "The Bill of Rights" to begin the 4th quarter. This ties into our Social Studies lesson as students have been learning about how the United States broke free from Great Britain and learned to start over for themselves and build their government. Students will also go back over prefixes: sub- and super-. Students will also finish working on their Opinion Essays. For Social Studies, students will read how the colonists fought for their independence from Great Britain and how they were willing to fight for it. Once they were freed, they drafted the Declaration of Independence which is placed at the beginning of the United States Constitution. ****5th Grade VIRTUAL Graduation form**** If you have not done so already, please complete the form giving permission for your child's photo to be displayed during our ceremony. 1. The form is asking for publicity release so that I may include your child's photo in our end of year slideshow. 2. Creative Arts Info/Updates
The creative arts team hopes that you had a great break with lots of rest and relaxation over the last week. We look forward to seeing your kids for the 4th quarter to continue with teaching the best way possible for your children to learn and grow. This week, the end of 3rd quarter happens and all grades will need to be turned in prior to Friday so that we can ensure that we have time to receive your child's work, grade it, and input those grade into SchoolMax before the grading window closes. The specials team will work on reviewing the lessons that we finished with before break this week and will work on Thursday and Friday to try and have smooth transitions as we travel the building from class to class each day. Please remind your children that we may be a few minutes longer with allowing them to enter our zoom calls due to the moving of rooms, but it will most likely only be a few minutes for when we are switching specials. The start and end times should not be affected much if at all. If you have questions please reach out to us via dojo or email and we will get back to you asap. See you in a few days and let's enter the year strong!
