What's Happening in Third Grade

We want to remind parents to check SchoolMax weekly for your scholar's current standings in their classes. Encourage your scholar to stay on top of their assignments and complete their work in a timely manner. It is very easy to fall behind and we want to ensure that all scholars are successfully.
Next week in Math, scholars will continue with Unit 6: Connect Area to Multiplication & Division. In Science, scholars will begin Electricity and Magnetism. In Reading, scholars will be analyzing the structure of informational texts. In Social Studies, we will continue our study on Economics.
We just want to share with families that Class Dojo is our main communication platform to share information with families quickly. Please check Class Dojo daily for any updates and new information shared.
Students should be working on their STEM Fair Project and Research Paper. Both are due on January 19, 2021.
Also, Wednesday small group schedules are posted in Google Classroom for Math & Reading. Please keep in mind that your scholar may be meeting with both teachers on Wednesdays. Schedules are updated weekly.
Have an awesome week on purpose!!

Hello Parents,
This week our focus will be on division of multi-digit numbers by one and two digit divisors, the solar system, and nutrition.
Please note that your scholar should formulate a good STEM question and be ready to begin their experiment and research after it has been approved by the teacher. It MUST be a testable question and appropriate for the given time frame allotted for the STEM Fair. STEM E-Projects are due on January 18th. Please follow the timeline in the Stem Fair packet. The packet is uploaded in Google Classroom under "class" work then “STEM Fair deadlines" for easy access.
In ELA, students will be reading the story "Let Wild Animals Be Wild, Don't Release Animals Back to the Wild." This is an argumentative text. Students will work on Parts of Speech this week more specifically nouns and adverbs.
In Social Studies, students will be learning about Pilgrims and Puritans in New England. Students should be able to tell the key events in establishing the colonies in New England.

The Power of Self Talk!
|
Hello Tigers Den!
I wanted to share with you some of the fun (ok, its fun to Me!) articles that I have been reading recently, and provide some activities to go along with them!
Here is an awesome article, talking about the power of our inner monologues and how we can ensure they are being used for good! (motivation, confidence, resiliency...)
http://selfcontrol.psych.lsa.umich.edu/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/KrossJ_Pers_Soc_Psychol2014Self-talk_as_a_regulatory_mechanism_How_you_do_it_matters.pdf
Here are some positive affirmation songs and follow up conversation to help support that positive self talk in your Tiger(s):
Sesame Street: I Wanna Be Me Song
https://youtu.be/cp51HP0eisc
After listening to the song, talk about what message Cecile is trying to send.
How does Cecile feel when other people are telling her how to be or who to be?
How does she feel about being herself?
Yes, I Can! | Animal Song For Children | Super Simple Songs
https://youtu.be/_Ir0Mc6Qilo
After listening to the song, talk about the different things the animals can do.
How does it make them feel to list all the things they can do?
Tell me about all the things that YOU can do?
How does it feel to see all those things?
I Am Smart: Positive Self-Talk that gives Children Self Confidence
Consider playing this song in two parts. The first part is touches on different affirmations (called affies in the song). The second part touches on being smart.
https://youtu.be/YmY4g27k73k
Sesame Street: Will.i.am Sings "What I Am"
https://youtu.be/cyVzjoj96vs
After listening to the song, talk about the different things that Will.i.am can do.
What do the animals tell him he is?
How does Will.i.am feel?
Why do you think that is?
Next, have students finish their own sentence starter: I am …
How does it make them feel to list all the good things they are?
Graciously,
Your School Counselor
