It's Quarter 2 Week 4, Hear us ROAR!
Welcome back from our short break! In RELA we have now finished Unit 1, and practiced writing good research essays. This week we will be starting a new text: "Feathers: Not just for Flying." We will be focusing on Main Idea and Details this week. We will also begin to research our STEM Fair Topics in class. Last week in Social Studies, we continued to explore how the United State's government's 3 branches work together to govern our nation. This week, we will learn about how these branches came to be and the history behind the government's creation. In Math, we will be starting topic 4 - Use strategies and properties to multiply by 2-digit numbers. This multiplication will be taught using arrays, partial products, and area models. For most of you parents, this is not the way you learned to multiply when you were in elementary school. If you wish to help your scholars I encourage you to review the Pearson Math Text Book, Topic 4 for more information on these strategies. Your student's math teacher is also available if you need help or clarification. Please encourage your child to continue in the memorization of multiplication facts. Math in elementary and middle school is more easily mastered if your scholar has their facts memorized. Before break, students filled out a Google Form on: 💡IDEAS: 4th Grade STEM FAIR 20-21. This was to get the ideas going and think about what they wanted to do. This week, we will meet with scholars one on one to talk about how to make those ideas into award winning projects. Students fill out: 💾Topic Choice for APPROVAL: 4th Grade STEM FAIR 20-21. Teachers fill out: ✅ APPROVED 4th Grade TOPICS 20-21. ALL TOPICS MUST BE APPROVED BY DECEMBER 4TH! While teachers are meeting with students, scholars will work on 2-4: Human Impacts on the Environment - the use of different natural energy resources affects the local and global environments. Self guided lessons.

Goodbye November and Welcome December!! Here we are almost at the end of the year 2020 and the home stretch to winter break! Let’s make December awesome! Here is your week at a glance for the first week of December. In ELA this week, we will be reading the Realistic Fiction story of "Hatchet." Students will review R controlled vowels and complete multiple activities with this concept. Students will also continue to read our second quarter novel "Bud, Not Buddy." A message was sent out to all parents a few weeks ago with information about purchasing the book so that your scholar may have the actual book in front of them OR, continue to listen to the audios that are posted on Wednesdays. For Social Studies, students will continue to build their knowledge on Native Americans and also how the Europeans came and took over the land. Students will learn about the English this week and how they started the Virginia Company. They will learn how they used the company in order to make money. In Math, we will be reviewing what we learned from the beginning of the year, starting with dividing whole numbers and working our way towards dividing decimals. For Science, we will continue learning about weather and climate and move on later next week to the Solar System. In Health, we will continue this week with Nutrition and how to take care of our wonderful systems! Have a wonderful week and thank you for your continuous support! ***Please be sure to check SchoolMax regularly for updated grades and student progress.****
