Hello October!
There will be many activities happening in the month of October so make sure you are keeping an eye out for information via dojo or email. We will be having a Character Day Book Report due Oct. 30th. Your scholar will be allowed to dress as a character they are doing the book report on. Our first kindergarten STEM Project will also be due at the end of the month. We will also take a virtual field trip to a pumpkin patch and farm. Information about the book report and STEM project will be sent out this week. Helpful tips: Here are a couple of tips to make things run more smoothly. Label your scholars workbooks with a post-it or permanent marker. Write the number 1 on the Literature workbook (k.1), the number 2 on the social studies workbook, the number 3 on the math workbook (volume 1), and 4 on the science workbook. Place the rest of the workbooks in another space. When it is time to get a workbook we can tell the students the number book to get. Also we suggest getting or making bookmarks for the workbooks. When your scholar is done for the day, they put the bookmark in and will know where to find the next page easily the next time the workbook is used. This will help free up the time you may spend helping them get their books and locating the page. This week there will be a spelling test on the sight words: like, to, a, I, the, am. The test will be Thursday, October 8th. There will be a math test on Friday, October 9th. Dates to know: Oct 13. --Social Studies Assessment Oc. 12. --Parent-teacher conference Oct. 16--No school

What's Happening in Third Grade
As we continue to move through our curriculum, it is important that scholars are remaining focused during virtual lessons and participating during class discussions. Things do move fast and we want to ensure that scholars are getting the most out of their time in each class. Encourage your scholar to ask questions when something does not make sense and share his/her thinking with the class. Together we can all learn from each other. In Math, scholars will continue to discuss multiplication and will have an assessment on October 6,2020. In Science, they will continue with Motion & Forces. In Reading, scholars will continue to read traditional tales focusing on identifying its characteristics and the theme of the story. In Social Studies, we will study Using Earth's Resources. Just a friendly reminder, that on Wednesdays students should be completing assignments posted in both of their classes to be marked present. Once students have completed the assignments, they should be marking the assignment as done or turning it in. Please remind your scholar to only submit assignments when he/she has completed the assignment. Let's have a great week on purpose! Upcoming Dates 10/12 Parent Teacher Conference (more information will follow later)

5th Grade Newsletter
Hello Parents, We have made it to the 6th week of school! By now students should be well accustomed to the rhythm of their classes and how to get to their assignments on Google classrooms. Here is what to anticipate for the week of October 5th. For Math, we will be starting Topic 2, using models and strategies to add and subtract decimals. In Science, we will continue to learn about our biomes and get ready to dive into Chapter 2, Earth’s systems. Students can utilize their IXL for math and science whenever they want more practice, these assignments do not necessarily need to be assigned by the teacher. The books that students picked up from school at the beginning of the year for Math, Science, and ELA are for them to keep and write in. These books are to be used as extra resources for students if they want more information on the content that we are discussing. These books are the same books they can access online on Pearson they are their "e-books." Many parents were asking for a general schedule as to what students are doing within a week. Each day, students engage, explore, and apply skills they are learning during the week. On Wednesdays, all classes are offline but work is to be completed by 2:25pm. In order to be marked present, work must be submitted by 2:25pm. This is also a day for small group sessions. Teachers may request a few students to join their class to hone in on skills learned in class. On Thursdays or Fridays, student work in Harmony Health which is a part of our health curriculum. On Fridays, students will have a Math and Science quiz or test. We will utilize the rest of their time in either completing make-up work or a STEM activity! We hope this clarifies things! In ELA, students will be learning about Historical Fiction. They will read the story "From Pedro's Journal" and complete enrichment activities. They will dive deeper into writing narratives and they will learn how to properly write an introduction and conclusion paragraph while including detailed information. Students will also work on using transition words and how to write with dialogue. In Social Studies, students will continue to learn about the ways and lifestyle of the Native American people and tribes. We will learn about how they created their own government and learned how to build their economy. Important Dates: October 12- Native American Day School Closed (Parent Conferences) October 16- No School
