Kindergarten
Goodbye week 1, Hello week 2!
WE DID IT!!! We not only made it through the first week of kindergarten, but also the first week of online learning. With that being said everyone did an amazing job. Your children are adapting quickly and have proven how tech savvy they can be. They have learned quickly how to mute and un-mute themselves, are learning how to use the chat, leave the Zoom call, and other various tools of Zoom. For week two we will continue practicing how to use the tools of Zoom effectively and practice being more independent with them. We will also continue to introduce various activities and lessons. Our goal for week two is to help make the students as independent as possible on Zoom and accessing what they need. With that being said, please make sure that your scholar has their journals, pencil, and other school materials with them or close by in a designated place when the day begins. This will help them be prepared, organized, and responsible. This will also help free up some of your time as well if they can access their materials on their own. Google Classroom assignments will be placed in the classrooms on Tuesdays by 5pm. This will allow those of you who work extra time to complete the assignments. When submitting the work to the classroom, make sure that you click the "turn in" button. Assignments are due Wednesday by 2:25pm. Attendance for Wednesday is taken no later than 2:55pm. In order for your scholar to receive credit for the day, we need to see that they have completed work for the day. Let's have an amazing week two and continue to make independent, tech savvy students.

2nd Grade News
We had an amazing week in second grade!! We spent a lot of time this week going over our rules and expectations. We will continue to do this into next week. We worked on learning how to log into Google Classroom and several other websites we will be using throughout the year. Please continue to practice this over the weekend so things run even smoother next week! Below there are some helpful tips and links for anyone who may still be struggling with Zoom and Google Classroom. Zoom: The first thing we want everyone to be sure to do is make sure his/her display name is correct. This is going to make it easier for everyone, including me, to learn everyone's names. If the correct name is not displayed, your child may get called an incorrect name a couple of times. We have attached a link that will walk you through setting up a zoom profile with the correct name. In case you are having trouble creating a profile, here is how to change your name once you are already in a Zoom meeting. https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201363203-Customizing-your-profile https://teaching.nmc.edu/knowledgebase/changing-your-name-in-a-zoom-meeting/ Another feature that I noticed some students were having trouble with in Zoom was the button that allows students to raise their hands. In order to do this, students need to click where it says participants. At the bottom of the window that pops up, there is a button that says raise hand. This is what students will need to click to get my attention and ask to be unmuted. Google Classroom: Another issue that we ran into today was with Google Classroom. It was clear that many students have never used Google Classroom before. This is our first year using it, so I expected there to be a learning curve. Tonight, I would really appreciate it if you all could walk your child through Google Classroom. Scholars should be able to get to Google Classroom, navigate between the different classes, find classwork, and submit it by themselves. This will definitely take some practice. I have attached a Google Classroom Tutorial for Beginners. There are many other useful tutorials that you can find on YouTube as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88idNZxeZbo If you have any questions please reach out to your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a wonderful 3 day weekend and we will see everyone on Tuesday!

What's New in Third Grade
We did it! We completed our first week of distance learning. We overcame obstacles, learned new ways on communicating with our teachers and classmates virtually, and worked on creating a positive and productive learning environment through Zoom. Our work is not done but has just begun. We are so proud of our scholars for working hard during the first week of school and we are looking forward to seeing them grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. We would also like to thank our parents for being patient with us. By working together we will get through this. Next week, we will be continuing to introduce and practice routines and procedures. We will begin our curriculum in week 3. Right now, we want to ensure that our scholars are comfortable navigating and using the different online platforms. Here re a few reminders as we move into week 2. -Scholars should be logging into their Zoom meetings on time. Attendance is taken after each break to ensure that scholars are returning back to class. -Schedules have been posted in Google Classroom with Zoom links for each class during the day. Please have your scholar become familiar with their schedule so they know where they need to be at given times of the day. -On Wednesdays, scholars are expected to complete their independent work assigned by both of their teachers. All assigned work must be completed by 2:25 pm. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your scholar's teachers via Dojo or email. Have a great weekend! Upcoming Dates 9/7/2020 Labor Day No School 9/9/2020 Back to School Night (Zoom links will be shared soon)

ROARing First Week!
We made it through the first week of zoom calls and our new distance learning plan! Our scholars have done an amazing job! We took some extra time to talk about mental health and how this type of school is different that it used to be. We talked about our feelings and ways we can support each other. 47% of students said that their parents or guardians were their best cheerleader! We are implementing a PAWS system. Positive Attitude Winning Spirit! Where students will celebrate each other for helping them.  In Math this week, we spent time reviewing procedures and expectations, and learned how to navigate around Google Classroom. We started to discuss growth mindsets and what scholars need to do to exercise their brains. Next week, we will continue to discuss these topics and specifically how they relate to Math class and what we expect from students. We will start to introduce place value and number concepts. In Science, we started to talk about how to use our technology and the scientific method. We also asked our scholars what category they would like to win a Nobel Peace Prize in. 41% said in the peace category, 30% said Chemistry. Next week, we will be talking about how to make a maker space at home and to create things from ordinary objects around them! This week in Social Studies, we learned and practiced Zoom procedures for live class sessions and practiced getting to know our classmates. In Social Studies this coming week, we will be practicing break-out group procedures and working in small groups. This week in RELA, we began practicing reading as a Fourth Grader and got to know each other by designing and presenting a locker filled with some of our favorite things! Next week, we will be reading texts about kindness and community. We will practice our reading comprehension skills. Students logged into eSpark, noredink, and aaaspell.com. We will be starting our regular homework soon. Please review the Technical Support Resources when you have some time, to assist you and your scholar in navigating through this year. We wanted to thank ALL of our Scholars and their families for having patience and trying their best, through this new learning method. We appreciate everyone's partnership and continue to look forward to the great things to come!
