Student Materials
Today, we distributed consumable books for Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies for each grade level. These books will be used as a safety net for if and when technology fails. Please make sure you place these items in a safe place so they do not get damaged. If we return to the building full time, we will be asking students to come with their consumables to place in their desks. But if we do not return, students will keep them at home.

Patience is Key
As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, we must remember that we are partners. This is a learning experience for everyone. We will work together and make sure our students do not miss a step. I want everyone to breathe and say, "I will get through this." Then, I want you to be patient. Be patient with your child. Be patient with us (CMIT Staff). Be patient with yourself. We can only do one thing at a time. We got this! Our students will learn. Our students will prosper. Lastly, our students will be successful. Let's have a terrific school year!

Welcome to Kindergarten
The kindergarten team is excited to welcome our new scholars. We are looking forward to this year and the adventures that await us. We are also looking forward to a strong partnership with parents as we explore the new world of distance learning. Let's meet the teachers. The Kindergarten Team: My name is Ms. Thornton and I will be your scholar’s kindergarten teacher. This is my second year teaching Kindergarten at CMIT. I am originally from Rhode Island (the smallest state in the country), and I moved to Maryland in 1996, however; I still have a very strong northern accent that I have learned to accept. I have one daughter named Carina and she is in her second year of college at H.C.C. I started working in the education field immediately after high school while I attended college. I have my B.A. degree in IDS: Early Childhood Education; with a minor in Communication and Behavior Studies. I have been teaching for over 30 years and I really enjoy seeing the progress in each scholar as they learn throughout the years. My name is Ms. Marshall-McWeay and I am your scholars kindergarten teacher. I am an individual who is self-motivated, has strong work ethics, and enjoys uplifting the youth in many ways. My desire to be a teacher came when I took on the responsibility of becoming a bonus mom. Seeing how much of a difference I made in one child's life let me know that being an educator was not only my passion but my calling. My experience in Early Childhood Education began while working for PG County Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission as a member of the event planning team for their Child Care Committee. After working for PG County MNCPPC I relocated to Georgia and took on a job as a kindergarten assistant teacher. While in Georgia I picked up many teaching practices that I still stand by today and currently use in my teaching. I have completed college courses in Secondary Education and Small Business Management, as well as attained my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education at Prince George's Community. My bachelor’s degree is in Child Adolescents with Bowie State University and I am currently working towards my master’s degree in counseling/psychology. I look forward to working with you as we build skills and knowledge within your scholar and prepare them for first grade. Now let's rock this school year out. Ms. Barton: Welcome friends! I am excited to work with you this year. This is my third year teaching kindergarten at CMIT. Prior to coming to CMIT, I worked in Southeast, DC for 5 years in an early childhood program. I have also been fortunate enough to work for four years in Tennessee with middle school and high school students. I grew up in Montgomery County and attended both Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. I graduated with my B.S. in Elementary Education with and emphasis in Science. I am a firm believer that children should be introduced to the sciences early and am looking forward to many fun science lessons through out the year. (Hint, we may have some baby chicks at some point this year). Your scholars are not alone in starting a new adventure in kindergarten, as I am starting Graduate school on Monday. I am excited to be getting my M.S. in Natural Sciences and Environmental Education. My name is Ms. Echols and I will be your scholar’s kindergarten teacher. This is my second year teaching kindergarten at CMIT Elementary. I have an associates in Early Childhood Education and I graduated from University of Maryland Baltimore County with a bachelors in Sociology. I am currently enrolled as a graduate student at Towson University to obtain a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. I am excited for another year teaching our scholars!
