Coronavirus update / Actualización sobre el coronavirus
|
Dear Prince George’s County Public Schools Community,
On March 5, 2020, three positive cases of Coronavirus were identified in Montgomery County; the patients — a married couple in their 70s and an individual in their 50s — contracted the virus while overseas. We are in regular contact with the Prince George’s County Health Department and Maryland Department of Health regarding the Coronavirus. The school system adheres to guidance and direction from the county and state health departments in all health-related matters.
As a precaution, all Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) sponsored international travel is canceled until further notice. For Spring Break travel, anyone who travels to a high-risk area should contact the county or state health department for instructions prior to departure and before returning to school or work.
Please note that we are continuing to work proactively to keep school and office settings safe, prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, develop plans to continue instruction in the event of any school closures, and share information.
Keep school and office settings safe
Our buildings and maintenance team is working hard to keep frequently used surfaces and areas as clean as possible. We are frequently cleaning school and office restrooms while stocking — and restocking, if needed — soap and paper towels in all facilities. Please contact your direct supervisor or Building Supervisor if you need additional supplies.
Prevent spread of respiratory virus
Practicing everyday preventive steps can help slow the spread of respiratory illnesses like colds, flu and Coronavirus: Stay home when sick, wash hands often with soap and water, and cover your coughs and sneezes. School nurses have been briefed on Coronavirus symptoms and we will continue to share the latest health department guidance with families and community members.
Continue instruction
Students who are sick should follow regular procedures for making up class assignments and homework. In the event of school closures, assignments will be posted on individual school websites daily, supplemented by online textbooks and resources if necessary. We are exploring free internet options to ensure access for affected families.
Stay informed
Additional information and resources are available at www.pgcps.org/coronavirus. This webpage includes fact sheets in multiple languages, links to the state and county health departments, and frequently asked questions about the Coronavirus.
Prince George’s County Public Schools is committed to providing safe teaching, learning and working environments for all students and staff. We will continue to consult with the Prince George’s County Health Department and Maryland Department of Health on appropriate procedures and recommendations to ensure student and staff safety.
Sincerely,
Monica Goldson, Ed.D.
Chief Executive Officer

Atentamente,
Monica Goldson, Ed.D.
