2nd Quarter Honor Roll Assembly
Greetings Parents/Guardians! We will have our 2nd Quarter Honor Roll Assembly on Thursday, February 13th. Please come to acknowledge our/your scholar(s) achievements. The assembly times are as follows: 2nd & 3rd Grade at 8:15-9:00 a.m. 4th & 5th Grade at 9:05-9:50 a.m. The following criteria will be used to identify students at each level: a. Principal’s Honor Roll: Students with at least a 4.0 GPA. b. Honor Roll: Students with at least a 3.0 GPA or higher. CONGRATULATIONS SCHOLARS! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Black History Month 2020
Good Afternoon CMIT Families, Please save the dates of the events happening at CMIT during this month. Parents/ guardians must be fingerprinted in order to conduct a read in within your child's classroom. Also, all assemblies will take place during the school day. Parents will not be able to attend, however pictures and videos will be shared on ClassDojo and our CMIT Twitter page. The 2nd quarter Parent University workshop has been rescheduled for February 19, 2020 in an effort to collaborate with our PTO community. Thank you for your flexibility. Lastly, the Pretty Brown Girl Anniversary Celebration is open to all CMIT families! This event will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 12pm-2pm. We are looking forward to seeing all of our K-5 girls with their families on this momentous occasion. We Celebrate the 100th Day of School
Testing and make-ups have been completed and your scholar's information will be sent home this week. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your scholar's teacher. This week we will also celebrate the 100th day of school (on Wednesday the 10th). You may create a 100th day of school t-shirt for your scholar to wear on Feb. 10th. If they are not wearing a 100th day of school shirt, they should be in full uniform. Our story of the week is My Lucky Day. Our sight words will be: are, that, do We will be working with the letter Ll, initial and final Ll sound. We will be learning about cause and effect and the action part of a sentence. In math, we will work on: Counting how many in a group Using reasoning to count and writing numbers 11-20 Making equations for numbers 11-13 We will also be taking the Topic 9 assessment on Wednesday. In science, we will continue learning about sea animals in preparation for our trip to the aquarium. This week we will learn about the jelly fish. As it is Black History Month, we are learning about different inventors, and this weeks inventor is Garrett Morgan. Dates to know: Feb 10th--100th day of school Feb 12th--Topic 9 assessment Feb 14th- Valentines Day Feb 17th-- No School

Next Week in First Grade
Reading - We will be reading "Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink" by Diane DeGroat. Reading Skills: making predictions, problem vs. solution, making connections, and writing opinions Phonics: long e, spelled 'ea' (example: peach, reach, teach) Math - We are starting Chapter 8, which is understanding place value. Science - We will be learning about the planets in the solar system. Social Studies - We are continuing to learn about the American Constitution. Health - We are learning about communication. Our school is holding an African American Read-In event from February 3 through February 28. Sign-up genius links have been sent out via Class Dojo! The 100th day of school will be on Monday, February 10, 2020. Information was sent home with each child about how we will be celebrating the 100th day of school! If you are not participating in the 100th day of school, then students will need to wear their uniform. Students received information from their teacher about celebrating Valentine's Day. Please check for this information!

2nd Grade News
We had an amazing week in second grade. Next week, we will be continuing our reading unit about our changing world. The question of the week will be, "What changes occur under the ground?" In class, we will be reading "Soil." Throughout the week, we will focus on Facts and Opinions, as well as Questioning. The spelling pattern for List A next week will be dipthongs: ou, ow, oi, and oy. In math, we will be beginning Topic 8. This topic covers working with time and money. As a reminder, it is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. Please continue to send your child to school in the correct school uniform. The only day children do not have to wear all black shoes is his/her PE day. As always, if you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a great weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

We would like to thank all of the grandparents who participated in Grub with Grandparents last Friday. It was a pleasure having you in our classes. Thank you for sharing a piece of you with our scholars. Next week in Math, students will continue studying fractions. Students will take their topic 12 assessment on Monday February 10, 2020. In Science, we will be studying life science. In Reading, we will continue with our novel study discussing the characters' motivations & feelings. In Social Studies, we will study communities building a nation. We encourage all families to check SchoolMax periodically to get a snapshot of how your scholar is doing in his/her classes. Please join the Third Grade Team as we celebrate Black History Month with Read Ins in the classrooms. Parents are invited to read a book by an African American author/illustrator to their scholar's class. You are encouraged to bring an age appropriate book to share. If you don't have a book, no worries we have plenty in the classroom for you to choose from. You have to be fingerprinted to participate. Please only sign up for one slot in your scholar's homeroom. On your assigned day, please sign in at the front office and someone will escort you to the classroom. This week in 4th grade, we talked about the importance of hand washing and illness prevention. Also in health, we will continue with the Sanford Harmony curriculum to talk about how our words affect others. In Math, we worked on comparing fractions. Next week, we will learn about adding and subtracting fractions. In Science, we are learning about circuits. Next week, we will be learning about energy. In Reading, Black History Essay topics were approved this week. Scholars should select an African-American in the STEM field. Next Tuesday, we will be going to the National History Museum. Make sure that scholars are in their Oxford shirts.

Hello Parents! February is here at last! Here is what to look forward to next week. In ELA, we will be reading the story of Mahalia Jackson. Students will learn how an artist uses music to inspire others. Students will be going back to the skill of Main Idea and details. Students will also continue reading our 3rd quarter novel "Bud, Not Buddy" and read chapters 5-6. For Social Studies, students will continue to learn more about the Civil Rights Movement and how young people were able to play a role. As for Math, students will test on Monday Topic 16 (on Pearson), Data and Coordinates, and start Topic 15 Classifying Planes and Figures. In Science, students will test on Chapter 3 "Growth and Survival"(date and details will be dojoed) and we will begin Chapter 4, Ecosystems. Reminders: Monday 2/10: Math Topic 16 Test and IXL paper due Please check SchoolMax weekly. Thank you for all of your continued support and we hope you have a wonderful week!
