Half Way Through Quarter Two
We are half way through the second quarter and are preparing to do our mid year assessments when we return in January. With assessments occurring when we return in January, please continue working with your scholar at home. Review sight words, reading comprehension, numbers, addition, and subtraction. IXL is also a great tool to use over the break. Please send your scholar to school with coats and other winter items when the weather is cooler. We do have recess outside as long as the temperature is 40 degrees or higher and weather permits. Also, make sure clothing, lunch boxes, etc. are labeled so they can be identified if misplaced. On Friday, Dec. 20th, we will be having a fun day full of crafts and activities. Keep a look out for messages from your scholars teacher. Next week in ELA the story will be "Little Quack." We will be working with the letter Rr and sight words me, she, and with. We will review verbs and learn about verbs for the present and past. We will also review and discuss Plot. In Math we will dig deeper into subtraction. In Science, there will be an assessment for our unit on motion. Dates to remember: Dec. 16--STEM Fair Projects due Dec. 20-- Science Assessment and Winter fun day Dec. 23- Jan 1st. No School

2nd Grade News
We had a great week in second grade! Next week, we will be continuing our reading unit on Creative Ideas. The question of the week will be, "How can creative thinking solve a problem?" Throughout the week, we will focus on comparing and contrasting as well as summarizing. The spelling pattern for List A next week will be compound words. In math, we will begin topic 5. This topic will cover subtracting within 100 using strategies. Don't forget, STEM Fair Projects are due 12/16! This is a requirement of all students at CMIT. As a reminder, it is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. Please continue to send your child to school in the correct school uniform. The only day children do not have to wear all black shoes is his/her PE day. As always, if you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo. Have a great weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!
