Book Character Day 2019
|
During Book Character Day, students had to select a book and choose a character from the book that they would like to be. Our scholars did an excellent job expressing their creativity skills by embodying a book character. Thank you staff and students for embodying such great school spirit, making Book Character Day a tremendous success. To view more photos, please check out our school website!

We are coming off an amazing week in second grade!
We had an amazing time on our field trip to Clark's Elioak Farm. Thank you to all the parents that volunteered to be chaperones!
Next week, we will be continuing our reading unit on working together! The question of the week will be, "Why is it a good idea to work together?" Throughout the week, we will focus on Cause and effect, as well as, story structure. The spelling pattern for List A next week will be plurals. In math, we will be continuing topic 3. This topic focuses on adding within 100 using strategies.
As a reminder, it is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo.

This week in math, we worked on multi digit to single digit multiplication. We discussed the distributive property, the partial product method and the traditional method. Next week, we will be working with multiple digit multiplication to multiple digit multiplication. We will use the partial product method, traditional method and the latis method. We practiced all of these different methods, so students may find one that they are the most comfortable.
This week in science class, we will be worked with the scientific method to understand how to identify and create predictions about our test subject. Our test subject were pumpkins. We created a model of what it should look like and then on Thursday we got the opportunity to practice dissection. Students tested their hypothesis. Next week, we will be starting a new chapter in Science. We will be talking about heat and energy. Information about the STEM fair will also be discussed in class.
In RELA this week, students learned about Main Idea and Details while reading Letters Home from Yosemite. We also answered text dependent questions and found details to support given main ideas in the video Renewing our National Park Promise. Next, week we will work on author's purpose, while reading The Horned Toad Prince.
Students did an AMAZING job on their Character Book Report Project Posters and presented them in class.
