Mesa Club
|
This year we had a lot of scholars sign up for Mesa club. Unfortunately, we had to have tryouts this year. Scholars who have been accepted into the Mesa club were notified. Scholars who were not accepted have been placed on a waitlist, pending available space. The fee for Mesa club is $20 per student. This fee was due on October 17th which was our first official club day. If any parent cannot pay the $20 you must email Mrs. Mccain’Wigfall at bmccain@cmitelementary.org to request a fee waiver. Lastly, club attendance is mandatory. Students may be dismissed from Mesa club if they miss two sessions or have two behavior infractions. Thank you for your dedication to STEM! Please mark your calendar for October 21st which will be our Panera bread fundraiser! Thank you for your support!

We are coming off an amazing week in second grade!
Next week, we will be beginning our reading unit on working together! The question of the week will be, "How can we help each other in dangerous situations?" Throughout the week, we will focus on cause and effect, as well as summarizing. The spelling pattern for List A next week will be r-controlled vowels: ar, or, ore, oar. In math, we will be taking our Topic 2 assessment and beginning topic 3. This topic focuses on adding within 100 using strategies.
As a reminder, it is recommended that students practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home.
**Please don't forget to return your child's permission slip for our upcoming field trip to Clark's Elioak Farm. The field trip is on 10/29/2019. The cost of the field trip is $21 for students and $4 for approved chaperones.**
Please continue to send your child to school in the correct school uniform. The only day children do not have to wear all black shoes is his/her PE day.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher via ClassDojo.
Have a great weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

We would like to give a BIG shout out to all the Tigers in third grade for their research projects on the Hispanic culture. Your projects gave great insights on how rich the Hispanic culture is. Thanks for enlightening the CMIT community with your hard work and creativity. Great job!
We urge that scholars continue to pay attention to their homework sheets from both classes. Scholars should be writing their name and date on any work to be submitted. All homework should be turned in and completed on time.
This week in Math, students will be learning about the associative & distributive properties. In Science, students will continue learning about weather, weather tools, & clouds. In Reading, students will be using details from the text to identify the main idea. In Social Studies, students will review characteristics of the three types of communities.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on November 11th, 2019. A Sign-Up Genius will be sent out next week for parents to sign up to conference with their scholar's teachers.

Whats Lost When Parents Don't Talk About It...
|
" 'Why is this person darker than me?' 'Why is this person wearing that hat on their head?' " These are just some of the social identity questions parents might hear, says Tanya Haider, executive vice president for strategy, research and ventures at Sesame Workshop. "We sometimes are scared to talk about these things. If the adults stiffen up and say, 'Oh, you shouldn't say that loudly,' that's sending [children] a cue that there's something wrong."
And there's nothing wrong, Haider says, with a child's natural curiosity. What's risky is when kids are left alone to make sense of the differences they see, with little more than stereotypes, television and guesswork to guide them...
