Dismissal Procedures
|
We Want to Help You...we care about OUR scholar(s).
Dismissal Arrangement Changes:
If your scholar(s) dismissal arrangements change for a single day, a couple of days, as a permanent change, etc. please email the information to BOTH, Mrs. Virgil (evirgil@cmitelementary.org) and Mrs. Love (wlove@cmitelementary.org) prior to 1:45 PM. ClassDojo messages is your communication source for the teachers. Mrs. Virgil and Mrs. Love will ensure the information is passed to the teacher/scholar accordingly and in a timely manner. Without proper or timely notification your scholar will be dismissed according to their daily arrangements. All notifications need to be in writing; no verbal communication.
Early Dismissal
If you plan to have an early dismissal for your scholar(s), please remember the latest pick-up time will end promptly at 2:00 PM. Any time after 2:00 PM students will be released according to their daily dismissal arrangements.
CLF Enrichment After-Care
Enrichment After-Care begins at 3:00 PM. If your scholar needs to be picked up prior to that time, please follow the procedures listed below:
- Scholars that need to be picked up prior to the end of the school day should follow the same procedures as an early departure (see above under Early Dismissal).
- Scholars that need to be picked up between 2:25 PM - 2:55 PM will be released to the CAR-LINE. An email should be sent to BOTH, Mrs. Virgil (evirgil@cmitelementary.org) and Mrs. Love (wlove@cmitelementary.org) with notification of a dismissal change stating your scholar will be a CAR-RIDER for the day prior to 1:45 PM.
These procedures will aid CMIT Elementary in a smooth dismissal transition. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

It’s Not In To Be Out of School – #PGCPSAttendanceMatters
|
TARDIES and LATE DISMISSAL PICK-UPS ARE INCREASING!
In light of the PGCPS themed agenda; It’s Not In To Be Out of School – #PGCPSAttendanceMatters and keeping in line with the goal for every student to attend school every day, on time, we're noticing the number of late students after 7:55 AM is increasing. We do understand that some circumstances are unavoidable such as inclement weather, unexpected traffic delay (not normal daily/routine traffic), or scheduled appointments.
Classes begin at CMIT Elementary at 7:55 AM. Teachers have prepared warm-ups, quizzes, homework check, etc. Students cannot get the full benefit of our teachers' planning and teaching when they are coming in late. Late students are at times an interruption to the class already in session. Please adjust your schedules to arrive at CMIT Elementary prior to 7:55 AM.
Regarding student departure, we have also noticed an increased amount of late pick-ups. Please remember students are released starting at 2:25 PM. ALL students who are NOT registered for the CLF Enrichment After Care or are in a planned after school activity MUST be picked up by 2:55 PM. If you are interested in more information regarding the CLF Enrichment Before/After Care Program click here: http://clfmd.org/enrichment-2/
Remember the PGCPS THEME:
It’s Not In To Be Out of School – #PGCPSAttendanceMatters.
Our GOAL:
Our goal is for every student to attend school every day, ON TIME!
School HOURS:
Arrival: 7:35 AM - 7:55 AM
Departure: 2:25 PM - 2:55 PM
See attachment for Parental tips on how you can take action.

Mesa Club
|
Students interested in Mesa club should have signed up on the club google form. Students will have mandatory tryouts on August 8th from 3:00-4:00pm. Students will complete a STEM challenge. In the event we have too many students, a lottery will then be held and some students may be placed on a waitlist. Students will be notified August 9th if they have been accepted into the 2010-2020 Mesa club. The fee for Mesa club is $20 per student. This fee will be due on October 17th which is our first official club day. If any parent can not pay the $20 you must email Mrs. Mccain’Wigfall at bmccain@cmitelementary.org to request a fee waiver. Lastly, club attendance is mandatory. Students may be dismissed from Mesa club if they miss two sessions or have two behavior infractions. Thank you for your dedication to STEM!

We are coming off an amazing week in second grade!
Next week, we will be continuing our reading unit on exploration! The question of the week next week will be, "What can we learn by exploring the desert?" Throughout the week, we will focus on main ideas and details. The spelling pattern for List A next week will be inflected endings: -ing and -ed. In math, we will begin Topic 2. This topic will focus on working with equal groups.
As a reminder, it is recommended to be practicing basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home.
Throughout the year we will be having multiple volunteering opportunities. To volunteer for things like field trips, you must be fingerprinted with PGCPS and have your background check completed. You also must have completed the safe school online trainings THIS SCHOOL YEAR. You can access theses trainings at https://www.pgcps.org/required-training/.
NOTE: there are 3 trainings total:
Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention for Volunteers (10 min)
Student Safety Procedural Changes (15 min)
Prince George County Child Abuse: Mandatory Reporting (31 min)
Upon completion of your training please email your certificate to Ms. Virgil.

Next Week in Third Grade
|
The third grade team is looking forward to studying Hispanic & Latin American cultures as we begin our school wide celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month. Each third grade classroom has chosen a Spanish speaking country and will begin learning all about that country over the next two weeks. Asking your scholar what they learned about their assigned class country over the next two weeks is a great conversation piece at home.
We urge that scholars pay attention to their homework sheets from both classes. Scholars should be writing their name and date on any work to be submitted. All homework should be turned in and completed on time.
This week in Math, students will be learning various multiplication strategies. In Science, students will continue learning about weather. In Reading, students will be making inferences using text clues and background knowledge. In Social Studies, students will identify characteristics of the three types of communities.

Lego
Tigers in grade 3-5 practiced turning the battery on and off and talked about what humans and robots have in common and what makes them different. Tigers in grades K-2 compared some emotions and then built their lego model.
Music
This week in music class 3rd graders learned a music staff rap! We had a blast rapping and playing bean bag toss to name the lines and spaces of the music staff.
K-2 is working with steady beat and melodic direction. Our days were filled with singing and dancing to new and old songs.
4th and 5th graders learned how to use their individual Plicker cards to answer questions in music class. We'll use these for assessments from now on to save paper as we are a "green school".
Ms. Bautch would like to thank all parents and family members that donated to her project for classroom drums. They were delivered today and will be used daily in music class. Thank you!
Art
This week in art class will be the first of a two-part lesson in the organized repetition of lines, shapes, line qualities, and most importantly value. The illusion of form will be represented on a two-dimensional surface by week two.
Physical Education
Grades 4-5 will finish fitness testing this week and then will start to focus on pace & speeds. Grades k-1 will start to focus on pathways & levels, while 2-3 will go over leaping and landing from a run and jump skill.
