CULTUREFEST IS BACK - Save the Date 11.02.19!
Dear CLF Schools’ Communities of Volunteers, Philanthropists, Innovators, and Stakeholders! Every year, during the first weekend of November, our CLF community gathers to celebrate our collective culture. For 2019, Saturday, November 2nd, marks the official event date for our 7th Annual CLF CultureFest 2019! The location for this year’s CutureFest is our CMIT North High School: 14800 Switzer Lane, Laurel, MD 20707! The event will kick off at NOON and closing ceremony will be held at 5:00 PM. Performers, vendors, volunteers, and CultureFEST fanatics can plan to come early to help set up. Join your CLF community for a fun-filled, STEMazing way to celebrate cultural diversity with: music, games, heritage-based foods, local MD vendors, live stage performances, and so much more! This event grows each year and is an extraordinary way for our CLF Community to NETWORK and FUNDRAISE, together. (think out of the box…there is no box…there is no box to think about; skies are our collective limit). "Let’s keep the momentum going for our non-profit schools, PTOs, SGAs, PACs, Foundation and community for generations to come! After all…When it comes to CultureFEST ideas, our CLF motto is:" "YES AND!" #CLFCultureFest All About CULTUREFEST: CultureFEST is a family-friendly festival event to celebrate our six STEAMazing schools & cultures without a competition component. We need you to choose not if but how you wish to support CultureFEST: student talent, come laugh, play games, come to learn about and celebrate diverse cultures! We truly hope you & your family will join us for community, unity, friendship, and fun at this year’s CultureFEST on Saturday, Nov. 2nd. As we gather ideas for CultureFEST, this annual cornucopia of culture requires your input, energy, and creativity in as many ways as you can imagine. Imagination is the power of creation so please join in the fun and help to shape the biggest CLF event of the year by signing up, today! Right now, we need volunteers for planning & performing. Sign up, TODAY! Visit the link below to fill out your survey! http://clfmd.org/culturefest-is-coming/ -- Warmest regards, Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation 6151 Chevy Chase Dr. Laurel, MD 20707 T. Kindergarten is on a Roll!
Welcome to the 2nd week of Kindergarten. The students have been having fun learning about what is in their classroom and their new school. Next week we will continue working on learning classroom and school-wide procedures and expectations. Students are learning what they should look like during different parts of the day. We are also introducing them to different materials they will use this school year. Testing will begin next week. Students will be given a variety of assessments, so please make sure that your scholar is getting plenty of rest and having breakfast. Also encourage them to take their time and do their best. We would like to take a field trip in October. In order for the field trip to be approved, we need plenty of chaperones. If you have not done so, please be fingerprinted as soon as possible in order to volunteer. Fingerprints have to be done with the school board in order to approved. Have a great weekend. We look forward to an amazing second week of school.

3rd Grade
Off To A Great Start
There are so much great things happening in third grade already! Students have been working really hard in understanding the culture of being a "big" kid in the upper grades. They are beginning to learn what it means to take ownership of their learning and being responsible scholars. The fun has just begun. There are a few things that we would like for you to take note of: This week, we will continue introducing routines and procedures along with third grade expectations. Students will also begin taking SLO baseline assessments in Reading & Math. These assessments will provide valuable information of where students are at the moment. This data will be used to guide our instruction in the upcoming weeks. The Reading and Math MAP assessment will also be administered later this month. Students will be assigned homework in Reading and Math beginning this week. Homework will be assigned every week. Parent Survey- If you have not completed the parent survey already, please do so. This information allows us to get to know you and your scholar better. https://forms.gle/THF9PxR4jCpVhYn76 Students are in need of 7 composition notebooks. Two of those notebooks are for Ecology and Spanish. Please send students to class with their notebooks as soon as possible. Students are required to wear their P.E. uniform on their schedule day. Back to school...relief or concern?!
Does "back to school" bring up both relief and concern? It's great to get back into a routine, but mornings and homework can be such a headache, right? And each year, the work only gets harder. To help you with your transition to the new school year, we're excited to invite you to join our FREE annual online event, just for parents. Back To School Survival for Parents is a great fit for you if you can relate to any of these: “My child is disorganized!” or “His backpack is a mess.” “My child can’t sit still in the classroom.” or “She has a hard time focusing.” “My child has ADD/ADHD, anxiety, or other learning challenges.” “Our life feels chaotic.” or “I’m exhausted all the time.” “Mornings? I don't want another year of yelling in the mornings!” “I'm so tired of technology!" or "I’m worried my child may actually be addicted to video games.” This live, webinar is happening Tuesday, September 17th at 12pm EDT. (Yes - there will be a recording in case you can’t be on with us live!) And yes, it’s 100% free. To save your spot, and get a reminder at the time of the event, you can register today by clicking below. https://impactadhd.pages.ontraport.net/btss-webinar-2019
