Vocabulary Parade
|
Who participates? All students and staff
When is it? Tuesday, May 28, 2019
What is it all about?
Vocabulary parades have become a popular event at schools around the country. It all began with the fabulously creative picture book, Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster, a story that celebrates words and definitions. The characters in the book participate in a Vocabulary Parade and contest – and the idea has really caught on! Vocabulary parades are a wonderful way to celebrate our love of words and reading. It also provides a fun and academic focus for dressing up in creative homemade costumes.
How do we get ready?
1) Plan
Students will be provided a list of word from their grade level curriculum. Look at the lists of words sent home, choose a vocabulary word, send your choice back to the teacher, think of interesting and fun way to dress as the selected vocabulary word.
2) Create
You can recycle all sorts of items around your home to make a creative homemade costume: boxes, poster-board, hats, paper bags, fabric, tin foil, etc.
3) Make a Vocabulary Card/Label
Remember to make a large card or sign with your vocabulary word and the definition on it, so we’ll know which word you represent in the parade. You can carry the word, make a headband or hat, or have it as part of your costume. Your word just needs to be visible somewhere on you!
4) Come Prepared
Come to school with your costume on. If your child needs to bring their costume make sure that they have all of the parts.

School will be closed on Monday, May 27th for Memorial Day.
Tuesday, May 28th is the Vocabulary Parade. Please send your students to school dressed as their word. Students costumes MUST include their word and it's definition. Students should also be able to define their word and explain their costumes.

Parents, your voices have been heard! CMIT North Elementary is having its first Summer Academy. You will be able to enroll in all sessions if needed. If there is enough interest we will also offer after school enrichment from 3-6.
The CMIT Elementary certified teachers will be the instructors for the program. Your scholars will be responsible for bringing lunch daily. The subjects taught will be Language Arts, Math, Science, and we will have enriching activities daily; such as organized play, STEM activities, brain builder games, just to name a few.
