Final Parent Workshop- Sign Up Now

Just 2 more weeks before our final Parent Workshop of the school year! Please click on the link below to register.
The topic for this event is fitness and health awareness. Therefore, please attend wearing your most comfortable workout clothes in order to participate in the workout session.The workshop will start at 6PM sharp however, our fitness trainer will stay with us until 7:30 P.M to ask and answer any questions following the workout session.

CMIT NES PTO News! Fundraiser packets are due Monday March 18th!
|
Our next fundraiser started March 1st and runs until March 18th. We are be selling popcorn. Your support is needed. We are trying to get smart boards for each class. The school code is CMITESN and the website is www.midatlanticfundraising.com.
Our fundraiser trip Limo ride to Chuck-E-Cheese is schedule for March 22nd pending approval.
On March 29th from 4:30-7:30pm we will have a Craft Night. Please consider attending. Pre-register below.

Week of March 18-22, 2019

This week we will students will understand that a lucky adventure may bring excitement experiences and may introduce us to exciting new people.
This week, students will acquire the following academic vocabulary/domain-specific words. (piglet, lucky, cook, fox, filthy, scrubber)
Students will enjoy becoming independent readers as they build decoding skills.
Phonics: /l/ Spelled Ll
Comprehension Skill: Cause and Effect
In math, we will be focusing on Topic 10: Composing Numbers 11 to 19.
Students will compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation.

Next Week in First Grade!
Reading - We are reading "Hooway for Wodney Wat" by Helen Lester.
Reading skills: making connections, retelling, writing opinions, and character traits.
Phonics: 'r' controlled; spelled 'ar' and 'or' (ex: "shark" and "fork" )
Math - We are continuing with Chapter 10, which is using models and strategies to add with tens and ones.
Science - We are continuing to learn about the sun.
Social Studies - We are continuing to learn about where things are located.
Health - We are continuing to learn about bullying.
We are running low on some classroom supplies. We are asking for donations of glue sticks. If you can donate, it would be greatly appreciated!!

We had a great week in 2nd Grade!
Next week in Reading, we will continue to go over Unit 4. The story of the week will be "The Night The Moon Fell." Throughout the week we will focus on plot and theme, as well as visualizing. In math we will be starting Topic 9. This topic covers numbers to 1,000.
Updates:
Next week 2nd grade will begin working on a class book. This project will last several weeks. Once the books have been completed, they will be available to purchase through Student Treasures. More information regarding that will be sent home at a later date.
2nd Grade will be going on a field trip to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center on April 23rd and 24th.

Celebrating Women!

In the next few weeks, students will be preparing for PARCC testing. Please have your scholar practice at home. HTTP://parcc.pearson.com
Please remind your scholar to follow the rules and to come to school prepared. Many scholars need their supplies replenished.

SS: Students will discuss wants and needs
Math: Students will review geometric concepts
Science: Students will continue to investigate animal habitats
Upcoming Events:
Monday March 18 - Woman's History Project due. Please note that this is a project (poster, poem, power point) and a reflection of what your scholar has learned about the woman they researched.

RELA Updates:
Book Publishing Project-
Students were assigned their Book Publishing project this week. All students should have brought home a large envelope containing instructions and materials needed to complete the assignment. This assignment is due no later than April 12! We will be mailing the envelopes to the publisher the following Monday, so late submissions will unfortunately not be able to be published. If you know you are going to be absent that day or week, please submit the assignment early. Assignments must be submitted in the envelope that it came in. Students will receive one free copy of their published book. If you’d like to purchase additional copies, there are instructions and order forms in the envelope. Have fun and be creative!
A copy of the instructions have also been posted on the class story.
Ms. Webb's updates:
Math: We will continue studying fractions and decimals. We will study equivalent fractions. Feel free to watch videos on youtube or Kumon, and study your notes nightly!
Science: We will continue Earth/Space Science based on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). We will wrap up our weathering lab and Dinosaur projects will be assigned soon!
Health: We will continue discussing the Respiratory System.
Ms. Ahmed's updates:
In math, we are learning more about fractions. In science, we have launched off our energy unit with straw rocket designs for a STEM lab. This week, we will continue to learn about energy.

Hello Parents!
Next week we will continue “Units of Measure” in math and for science we will cover “Plant Cell” and “How plants use air, water and sunlight to grow”. For health, we will continue with nutrition, digestion and blood borne pathogens such as HIV and related viruses.

ELA:
Students will continue to review past concepts that were taught throughout the year to prepare them for the upcoming MAP and PARCC. We will finish our 3rd quarter novel Bud, Not Buddy this week as well. Students will complete activities related to the story and concepts.
REMINDERS/UPDATES:
March 21 and 22- MISA Science Test ( Please ensure students eat a hearty breakfast and get plenty of rest on these nights to be ready)
