Black History Month
Scholars have learned so much about the influence and contributions of many Black Americans. Once again, we would like to congratulate the third graders who were finalist in the Black History Poster contest. Don't let the learning end there, please encourage your scholar to continue learning about their ancestors. We would also like you to encourage your scholar to be independent and ready to learn when they come to school. Many scholars are in need of pencils and notebook paper. Also, please remember to check homework folders, as we have noticed many folders have graded work which has not been seen by parents. The Keep at Home side of the homework folder should be emptied daily. With March being Women's History Month, scholars will be assigned a famous woman in STEM to research. We will send home this assignment soon! HIGH ALERT! ::: PARENTS BE AWARE!!!!!
Hello Tigers Den, I am glad I have your attention. I need you. Our kids need US. This is a very serious topic of conversation, and one that we cannot take lightly or addressed at a later time. We are raising a generation unlike the one in which we came to be... they are permanently "connected" to each other and to strangers in a simple click of a button on any of the many devices they have access to. They are exposed to so many ideas, challenges, trends, philosophies, and content that they are not developmentally prepared to process, let alone navigate. Below I am sharing information links for you, and I beg you to explore them and educate yourself. Information is our greatest defense in support of our children. First, a horrifying reality of hackers into children's Youtube programs, promoting and instructing them on suicide: "The Momo Challenge" https://apple.news/Ajib07GEAS3Oc_02BoS0POg https://www.google.com/amp/s/s/www.forbes.com/sites/andyrobertson/2019/02/27/dont-panic-what-parents-really-need-to-know-about-the-momo-challenge/amp Next, a resource list of Apps to know, and to be aware of that your child may be interacting with: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/apps-to-watch-out-for-in-2019 Please, PLEASE, know what your children are seeing, saying, and with whom they are interacting. Continue to teach safe and healthy use of the internet and devices such as gaming consoles, and tablets/phones... Engage with them in their use and exploration of the internet, and monitor monitor monitor! We need to all come together on behalf of our children.

Graciously, Your School Counselor [Mrs. Whitney Green]
