A Look at Next Week (February 4-8, 2019).....Unit 3: Week 2 Little Quack This Week's Knowledge Goals: Children will understand the excitement they feel -when they are big enough to try something new -when they are not sure they are ready yet This week, students will acquire the following academic vocabulary/domain-specific words. duckling, paddle, proud, pond, plunged, brave Sight Words: with, me, she Math: We will continue exploring different methods of subtraction. Homework has been differentiated in order to meet the needs and continue to challenge each individual student. Please remember that all homework is due each Friday unless instructed otherwise. Dates to Remember: 2/1-2/8: DRA Testing (Developmental Reading Assessment) begins. The Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) is an individually administered assessment of a child’s reading capabilities. It is a tool to be used by instructors to identify a students reading level, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. Once levels are identified, an instructor can use this information for instructional planning purposes. *Please remember to sign and return your child's MAP Test data sheet.* Students take the MAP test 3 times during the school year (Fall, Winter and Spring). Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth. The results will inform teachers of a student's strengths and weaknesses in Reading and Mathematics content.

The question of the week next week will be, "Where do creative ideas come from?" Throughout the week, we will be focussing on facts an opinions as well as inferring. The spelling pattern for list A next week will be comparative endings -er, and -est. In math we will be finishing up Topic 5. This topic is about subtraction within 100 using strategies. Black History Month
We would like to thank all the Grandparents that were able to visit. We really appreciated your advice and wisdom. Scholars have done a wonderful job with their Black History Essays and posters. If your scholar did not receive a Dojo award to dress down, please remind them to Respect others, Opt to be scholarly, Act responsibly, and React with kindness. Many scholars are losing points because they are not following directions, speaking in the hallway, and not being nice to others. Please remind your scholar to come to school ready and prepared to learn. In honor of Black History Month, we are asking volunteers to come in and read to their scholars' class. If you are interested, please contact your scholar's homeroom teacher with your availability. Next week in learning: Math/Science- Scholars will take the SLO assessment ELA-Scholars will understand how to infer while reading fables and folktales SS-Scholars will understand how the past affects the future "Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly."-Langston Hughes

Library Last week, 3-5 grades had STEM challenges after we group read "We're All wonders'' by R. J Palacio Students were tasked to first brainstorm ideas & then design/create inventions inspired by the story. We are so proud of our Kindergarten scholars who were able to check out books for the first time! Parents, please support your child's responsible book care by ensuring books are returned on time and in good condition. Ecology This week, some of our scholars conducted Mudwatt experiment. Huge shout out to 2nd grade students. Almost 100% of them completed the experiment. Once scholars are done with the experiment, they will analyze data of power that they produced by Mudwatt app. How exciting to see that technology, science, and math altogether in this experiment.
