Black History Month Poster and Essay Contest Incentive
|
Hello Parents,
Would you like the chance to help your child win a pizza party for their class? If so, you can do so by encouraging them to participate in the Black History Poster/Essay Contest.
Students from grades K-5 can create a poster that gives recognition to the role/impact of an African American on shaping culture, history and/or industry. The contest expectations are posted in the flyer. All work must meet the requirements or else it can not be submitted.
Please be advised that fifth grade students only, can choose to challenge their self by writing an essay instead of completing a poster board. This choice is optional. If a fifth grade student is interested in completing an essay, their work will be submitted with the middle school and high school students instead of the elementary group of students.
The class with the most participants wins a Pizza Party!
The winning class will be announced Friday January 25, 2019.

Please be mindful of our upcoming in-school Field Trip. On Tuesday, January 16, 2019 In a Perfect World Foundation will be coming to visit each of the Kindergarten classes here at CMIT. In preparation for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, they will be teaching our students about empathy, understanding and giving. Your child will participate on the 16th. Your guidance at home will help to reinforce what they learn and to apply these tools in real life situations. Your child will learn about making a difference in the world. Having a growth mindset is about believing YOU can make a contribution to the world.

5th Grade Updates

Hello Parents!
Last week students took the math and reading MAP assessments. Once our students completed their test it was scored automatically and they received a grade. Thus, feel free to ask them what they received and have a discussion with them. Some question you may want to ask are:
How challenging was the exam?
Why or why not was it challenging?
Did you feel like you understood many of the questions? Why or why not?
What do you think would help you understand the questions or material better.
What steps do you think you need to take to increase your score.
Looking forward this week we will be covering:
Math:
More on multiplying and diving fractions
Recapping adding and subtracting fractions with uncommon denominators.
Possible quiz/test on these concepts Monday on Pearsonrealize.
IXL HW is due Monday January 14th. It was passed out Monday January 7th.
Science/Health:
Solvent, solutes, mixtures, matter, particles and subjects along these lines.
Brainstorms: Your Central Nervous System, overview of the it’s structure and different functions of the brain, the effects of drugs on the brain, and common injuries and disorders that impact the central nervous system.
For Reading/ELA we will be reading the story Leonardo's Horse. We will still be working on the skill of Main Idea. Students will begin reading our new novel Bud, Not Buddy. We will read chapters 1-2 and complete activities.
For Social Studies we will continue with chapter 3 and work on Pilgrims and Puritans in New England. Students will work within their books to complete activities as well as on Pearsonrealize.com
Updates/Reminders:
January 17- Field Trip to Skatezone
January 21- NO SCHOOL
January 31- Book Report Projects Due
We hope you have a wonderful weekend! Cheers!
