MDOT and AASHTO sponsored program is at CMIT North Elementary!
|
The STEAM committee participated in an amazing training for R.I.D.E.S. (RIDES: Roadways Into Developing Elementary Student). This program is sponsored by MDOT and AASHTO. This program provided our school with STEAM supplies to engage students into learning. We are happy to have these new partnerships.

Next week we will be presenting our STEM Fair projects. Throughout the week we will be working on different winter activities. Please be on the lookout for a signup genius that will be posted on ClassDojo. Just like our Fall activities, we will be looking for some donations for the Winter activities. In math we will continue to work on fluently adding within 100.
Below you will find the scoring rubric for Social Skills that will be used across the board in second grade:
ClassDojo Reward System:
Respect Others: +2 Points/-1 Point
Opt To Be Scholarly: +2 Points/-1 Point
Act Responsibly: +2 Points/-1 Point
Respect Others: +2 Points/-1 Point
Social Skills Rubric:
2nd Grade teachers will check each students' positive percentage via ClassDojo reports weekly to determine social skills grades. Scores will be out of 100.
90-100 = A
80 - 89 = B
70 - 79 = C
60 - 69 = D
00 - 59 = E
For work habits, students will begin filling out reflection forms every Friday. Teachers will fill out the same form so both parents and students can compare the two scores. These reflection forms will be sent home at the end of each week to be signed by a parent over the weekend. The work habits grade will come from the teacher's portion of the reflection.
Reminders:
Be on the lookout for a message about donating resources for Winter STEAM Activities.
Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week.

Happy Holidays!
|
In the upcoming week, scholars will be presenting their STEAM projects to judges. On Friday, December 21, third grade will have classroom rotations, with an activity in each classroom. If you signed up to volunteer, thank you, and we will see you on Friday. We would like to thank our chaperones that were able to accompany us on Monday to the University of Maryland. We had so much fun and it would not have been a success without you all!
Going forward please remind your scholars:
They are responsible for their own learning, and it is them that we will hold accountable.
Homework/projects/extended learning is also their responsibility and incomplete or late assignments will adversely effect their grade.
To persevere and not give up! Expect the most and best from themselves! NO EXCUSES!
To also RESPECT others, OPT to be scholarly, ACT responsibly, and to REACT with kindness!
Please also take the winter vacation to replenish school supplies.
Upcoming Dates:
Friday, December 21- Tuesday, January 1 Winter Break Schools closed

Hello parents!!
These are the updates for next week:
RELA
This week students will review Cause and Effect. All activities will pertain to this skill. We will read stories and complete rotations only focusing and reviewing cause and effect. Students previously learned this skill back in the first quarter so we would like to review before we move forward to ensure they fully comprehend. There is no main story for this week. Students also do not have spelling words and vocab. They will have a homework packet based on the skills covered in class. Students will publish their personal narratives this week.
We will also continue to read our novel Abby Takes a Stand. We will read and complete activities this week on chapters 8-9.
Social Studies:
Students have wrapped up unit 2 which covered the Spanish Explorers and their Explorations. Students will take their unit 2 test this week to wrap up the unit so that we may begin unit 3 when we return fro winter break.
Math
We will be starting Fractions.
Science
We will be exploring vocabulary words such as species, habitats, population, and community.
Math and Science Homework:
All homework will be online. Parents please check to make sure students are completing the work. Signing the sheets ensures they are doing so. However, in some cases students are handing in the sheet with a signature but all of the work is not complete. The signature is beneficial for the students. This keeps the students accountable and ensures they are supported by both parents and teachers.
Updates/Reminders:
Please check Schoolmax weekly to stay up to date with your students progress
December 20- STEM projects gallery walks
December 21- Last day of school before winter break
December 22- NO SATURDAY ACADEMY
December 24-January 1- NO SCHOOL WINTER BREAK
January 4- December book reports due (no late projects accepted)
January 5- STEM FAIR
Happy Holidays to you all!!

STRESS!
|
Too often we neglect checking in with ourselves, and how we are feeling (both physically and emotionally).
Stress is sneaky and powerful, as it has direct relation to both kinds if feelings.
Check out this informative clip, emphasizing the importance of self care to combat stress... left alone, it is a scary and damaging thing.
