CMIT Elementary Mesa club
|
Our scholars won the Mesa Regional competition and proceeded to the state competition. At the state level Our scholars won first place in the storybook theme park ride. Our scholars are the first elementary school in Prince George’s county to achieve these awards! Go Tigers!
A special thank you to all the parents and staff who helped us. A huge shout out to Ms. Ahmed, Mr. Carpenter, and Mrs. Asafo-Agyei. We couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you!

This week in Kindergarten...
English Language Arts
We will read the story "Max Takes the Train." It is a story about a bunny that takes a journey to get a double wham ice cream sandwich! We will be comparing realism and fantasy while discussing transportation. We will also be reading words that have the beginning and ending sounds /j/ /w/.
Mathematics
We are circling back to addition and focusing on different ways to make base numbers. We will be using the vocabulary part-part-whole.
Science
This week we will wrap up our week on chicken life cycles as we said goodbye to our kindergarten chickens.
High Frequency Words
Here are our sight words we have learned so far. Remember to practice reading and writing these words regularly! (When reading at home, if you see these words, have your child point it out!) All of the words we will learn this year are available on our grade level website under "Sight Words."

REMINDERS
- Homework is due on FRIDAY each week. Remember to look for their new homework packet on Fridays. Homework that is not submitted by the due date will be given a ZERO.
- Please read regularly! Remember that just 20 minutes a day can boost your child's reading levels!
- Please remember to send an extra pair of uniform clothes to keep in your child's cubbie at school in the event of accidents or spills.

First Grade News
|
In reading, we will be reading the story "One Tiny Turtle". For writing, students will continue with narrative writing. Students will be given a prompt and they will need to go through the writing stages in order to organize their writing.
For math, we will begin the step up to second grade! This week we will be learning about even and odd numbers. Activities will be centered around this concept.
In science, students will continue to learn about life cycles. We will be taking a look at the process it takes for celery to change colors. We will be using food coloring for this experiment.
For social studies, we will be focused on each member of the family such as how a family tree is comprised. Students will be learning this skill so that they can work on their 4th quarter project of making a mega family tree.

Dear 2nd grade parents,
Please join us for Mission Moms on May 18th for Career presentations. Please refer to the flyer that was sent home earlier.
This week in class, we are learning:
RELA: Unit 6: Traditions
Story: A Birthday Basket for Tia
Spelling: Final Syllables -tion, -ture, -ion
Writing: Invitation Letter, prepositions and prepostional phrases
Math: Topic 11: Subtraction Strategies with three-digits and place value
Science: Life Science: Animal Habitats
Social Studies: Finishing up Chapter 4: Traditions and Culture. We are planning for a Culture Day fashion show in June, so please help your child research clothing from a culture of their interest (either their own heritage or any other).

Announcements

Hello Parents!
This week students were allowed the opportunity to make up any work that was not turned in on time for 4th quarter progress reports. We are also continuing to read Bud, not Buddy. Students also received their May Book Project on Monday, the project is due on June 4, 2018.
We also had promotion practice.
Reminder to parents who have not sent their child's current or baby picture, I would like to have them by May 25, 2017
All parents who would like to participate with the promotion please reach out to Mrs. Glasper, Also please be looking out for the email for the volunteer sign-up list.
Camp Schmidt meeting is going to be next week, Ms. McVeigh will be reaching out to you with the time. All parents of students who are attending are invited to come. This meeting is mandatory for all chaperones.
